Airport code facts are stable. Flight status, parking availability, security waits, construction traffic, shuttle pickup spots and airline counters can change on the day you travel.
What does SAT airport code mean?
SAT is the three-letter IATA code for San Antonio International Airport. Travelers see SAT on airline tickets, boarding passes, baggage tags, flight search tools, airport pickup instructions and travel apps.
Airport live checks & travel tools
Use current local conditions, official live-status links and planning calculators before you travel. Airline gate, terminal and flight times can change; your carrier remains the final source for flight-specific details.
Live flight center
Check the airport's official flight board, then confirm any last-minute gate or timing change with the airline.
Current airport-area weather
Useful for planning your trip to the airport. This is model-based local weather, not an aviation METAR or an airline operational forecast.
Quick official checks
Open the source that matches the decision you are making right now.
When should I reach the airport?
A planning estimate based on flight type and common time buffers. Always increase the buffer for severe weather, major holidays, unusual airport alerts or airline instructions.
Connection-risk checker
This is a planning heuristic, not an airline minimum-connection-time rule. International arrivals that require U.S. entry processing, baggage claim and security can need substantially more time.
Parking cost estimator
Uses the airport-specific rates stored in this article's configuration. Rates can change; verify availability and final pricing on the official parking page before driving in.
Passenger pickup readiness
Landing time is not curb-ready time. Add time for taxiing, deplaning, baggage claim, customs when applicable and walking to the correct pickup zone.

San Antonio Airport terminals: Terminal A and Terminal B
SAT uses Terminal A and Terminal B. The important traveler rule is simple: check your operating airline before choosing your drop-off curb, parking path or pickup point.
Terminal A
Terminal A handles many SAT airlines, including Southwest and several international or low-cost carriers in the official directory. It is also where rideshare pickup is listed on the lower-level outer commercial curbside.
- Useful for many domestic departures.
- Check official airline directory before arriving.
- Expect construction-related curb changes during airport work.
Terminal B
Terminal B includes American Airlines and some United operations in the official directory. The Consolidated Rental Car Facility is reached through Terminal B’s mezzanine level and sky bridge.
- Useful for American Airlines travelers.
- Rental car access is easier from Terminal B signage.
- Check official maps for gates, baggage and garage walking paths.
Airlines at SAT and terminal assignment notes
Official airline terminal assignments can change, so treat this as a planning snapshot and verify before leaving. Codeshares can also make the operating airline different from the airline printed first in your booking email.
SAT security and arrival timing
San Antonio International Airport is a 24-hour facility, but the airport FAQ says TSA checkpoints do not open until 3:30 a.m. Airline counters open based on first flight schedules, so early travelers should check with their airline before arriving too early.
Before 7:30 a.m.
SAT advises arriving at least two hours before flights departing prior to 7:30 a.m. Morning queues, checked bags and curb construction can add pressure.
After 7:30 a.m.
SAT advises arriving at least 1.5 hours before flights departing after 7:30 a.m. Add extra time for parking, bags, children or accessibility needs.
Lost ID
If you lose ID before a domestic flight, arrive early and explain the issue to TSA. Additional identity verification and screening may be required.
- Check the operating airline and terminal before leaving.
- Use official security wait information as a clue, not a reason to arrive late.
- Keep medication, IDs, chargers and children’s essentials in carry-on bags.
- Build extra time during spring break, Fiesta, holidays and major conventions.
SAT parking: economy, long-term, short-term, valet and pickup options
SAT’s FAQ lists economy parking at $7 per day, long-term at $14 per day and short-term at $25 per day. The airport also promotes Fly Away Valet at the Short-Term Garage, Level 0, with regular rates based on stay length plus taxes and a service fee.
Economy Green / Red Lots
$7/day planning rate. Best for budget trips where shuttle/walk time is acceptable.
Long Term Garage
$14/day planning rate. Good balance of convenience and lower daily cost than short-term.
Short Term Garage
$25/day planning rate. Better for short visits, greeting passengers or construction pickup/drop-off.
Fly Away Valet
$33/day special rate noted by airport homepage. Located at Short-Term Garage Level 0; taxes and service fee apply.
How to get from SAT to downtown San Antonio, hotels and nearby cities
Best transport depends on luggage, group size, hotel location, late-night arrival, accessibility needs and whether you are going downtown, Stone Oak, San Marcos, Austin or the Hill Country.
VIA Route 5 to downtown
VIA Metropolitan Transit Route 5 serves the airport and can reach downtown San Antonio in about 30 minutes for $1.30, according to the airport public-transportation page.
Where to board: Lower Roadway, Arrivals/Baggage level, outer curb near the far west end of Terminal B.
Stone Oak Express Route 7
SAT lists Route 7 Express service from Stone Oak Park & Ride on weekdays, with a non-stop airport trip of about 15–20 minutes and a $2.60 fare.
Use when: You live or stay near Stone Oak and the weekday schedule fits.
Rideshare
Approved rideshare services meet passengers on the outer commercial curbside, lower level of Terminal A. The official rideshare page lists Uber, Lyft, Turo, Wingz and Wridz.
Use when: You want app tracking or door-to-door hotel service.
Taxis
Taxis remain a practical choice for travelers without rideshare apps, late-night arrivals or trips where surge pricing is high.
Action: Follow ground-transport signs and confirm fare method before departing.
Rental cars
Rental car counters are in the Consolidated Car Rental Facility. From Terminal B, go to the mezzanine level and cross the sky bridge.
Best for: Hill Country, military base visits, San Marcos, Austin or multi-stop trips.
Longer-distance trips
SAT’s FAQ says renting a vehicle is the best option for San Marcos, Austin and other longer-distance destinations.
Compare: Rental cost, parking, tolls, fuel and rideshare distance pricing.
Picking someone up at SAT without circling the curb
During construction, curb space can be tighter than normal. The best pickup plan is to wait off-curb until the passenger has landed, deplaned and collected bags.
The airport describes the Cell Phone Waiting Lot as free, available 24/7 and offering complimentary Wi-Fi.
Do not drive to the curb when the flight has only landed. Wait until the passenger is outside or close to the pickup zone.
This is better for elderly passengers, minors, first-time flyers or family members who need help.
SAT says hotel shuttles, rideshare and taxis remain outside baggage claim on the lower level, but pickup areas may be slightly different.
Wheelchair assistance, sensory room, accessible parking and family support
For wheelchair assistance, SAT tells travelers to contact their airline to schedule support at no charge. For after-hours or immediate needs, the airport lists International Ram for Southwest passengers and Prime Flight Services or airport operations numbers for other airlines.
Wheelchair assistance
Request through your airline in advance. If immediate help is needed, use the airport’s accessibility contacts on the official FAQ/accessibility pages.
Sensory Room
SAT lists a Sensory Room near Gate A2. It is available around the clock and does not require special access or a reservation.
Accessible parking
Designated accessible parking areas are available for vehicles displaying proper identification in Long Term and Short Term garages.
Accessible ground transport
The airport advises arranging wheelchair-accessible ground transportation in advance. Listed taxi companies include Alamo City Taxi, National Cab and Yellow Cab.
Service animals
Confirm animal relief areas and airline requirements before travel, especially for connecting trips or long flight days.
SAT Pass
The airport FAQ says the SAT Pass Program allows non-travelers to request post-security access, subject to application and quota rules.
SAT Lost & Found: who handles your item?
Lost item recovery depends on where the item was lost. Do not file only one claim if the item could be with TSA, an airline or airport Lost & Found.
Submit the airport lost item report and provide proof of ownership.
The airport Lost & Found page lists TSA checkpoint items separately.
Personal items lost in flight and lost luggage are handled by airline representatives.
The airport page notes high-value items and currency $100 or greater can transfer to SAPD Property Room.
