YUL is the IATA airport code for YUL Montréal–Trudeau International Airport, the primary international passenger airport serving Greater Montréal in Québec, Canada. Airlines use YUL on bookings, boarding passes, baggage tags, schedules and flight-status systems.
The corresponding ICAO code is CYUL. The “C” is part of Canada’s ICAO naming pattern; CYUL is common in pilot, dispatch, weather and air-traffic systems rather than ordinary passenger booking screens.
Why is Montréal airport code YUL?
YUL predates the airport’s current Montréal–Trudeau name. Montréal’s municipal history explains the code as part of Canada’s early aviation-identification system: the Canadian Y prefix was paired with the U and L identifiers associated with the Kirkland-area radio beacon near Dorval. That historical identifier survived later airport renamings.
That is why “Montréal” and “Trudeau” are not obvious in the three-letter code. The identifier predates the current airport branding and survived later renaming.

The local UL identifier is tied to the radio-navigation/weather reporting conventions around Montréal’s Dorval airport.

YUL currently recommends arriving 3 hours before scheduled departure. The terminal is open 24/7, but airline counters and baggage-drop desks run airline-specific schedules, so a 24-hour terminal does not mean you can check a bag at any hour.

YULExpress security appointment
YULExpress is a free appointment system for eligible security entries. Reserve an available time, keep the QR confirmation and use the designated line. It does not remove screening, and it is not designed for travelers who stay inside the normal connection flow.

YUL U.S. preclearance: clear the border before your flight
YUL is a U.S. preclearance airport. U.S.-bound passengers complete U.S. Customs and Border Protection processing before boarding in Montréal. After landing at many U.S. airports, the flight can arrive much like a domestic arrival because the border inspection was completed at YUL.

There is no single “minimum YUL connection process.” The path changes with your origin, destination, onward boarding pass and whether the airlines support automatic baggage transfer. Follow the purple Connections signs before entering the public arrivals flow.

YUL to downtown Montréal: 747 bus, temporary 815/REM link, taxi and rideshare
STM 747 airport bus — 24 hours
The 747 operates every day and overnight between YUL and Montréal. The short branch to Lionel-Groulx normally takes about 30–35 minutes. The longer downtown/Berri-UQAM route has multiple stops and normally takes about 45–70 minutes, traffic permitting.
The 2026 airport fare is $11.25 and includes the applicable 24-hour STM bus/metro access. Buy through the Chrono app or airport fare machines; if paying onboard, follow STM’s exact-cash rules.
Temporary 815 connection to REM Des Sources — June 17 to October 19, 2026
Route 815 is a temporary bus link between YUL and the REM Des Sources station. The published plan is roughly every 30 minutes outside the peak, with approximately 15-minute service during the 1–8 p.m. peak period. It is useful only while the temporary service is operating.
Taxi — Door 23 arrivals
Go to Door 23 on the arrivals level, where the dispatcher assigns licensed taxis; advance booking is not required. Current fixed downtown fare: $49.45 from 5 a.m.–11 p.m. and $56.70 from 11 p.m.–5 a.m.. Other destinations use the regulated meter tariff.
Officially accepted taxi payments include Canadian cash, debit and major credit cards.
Uber and Lyft — Door 28/Leigh-Capreol for most app rides
Uber Black: Door 25 arrivals. Other Uber categories: proceed to the Leigh-Capreol pickup area accessible from Door 28. UberX currently uses a PIN/queue assignment system in that area. For Uber XL/Comfort or roughly 2 a.m.–10 a.m., follow the app’s exact instructions.
Lyft’s current airport guidance also routes standard pickup through the Leigh-Capreol area. Request only after baggage collection and after reaching the designated pickup zone.
Rental cars — counters moved to P4
Car-rental counters are now in P4 and are currently listed open daily from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m. From the terminal, go to Leigh-Capreol via Door 28 and take the free P4 shuttle. Returns go directly to P4 following rental-car signage.
Regular STM, VIA Rail and regional connections
Regular STM airport-area routes include 209, 356, 378 and 460. For VIA Rail, use the Dorval rail-station connection rather than assuming the train stops inside the airport terminal. Regional bus and hotel-shuttle pickup locations depend on the operator, so confirm the door before leaving arrivals.

P4 shuttle route and the Door 28 detail
From the terminal to P4, go to the Leigh-Capreol drop-off area via Door 28 arrivals. A courtesy connection between the terminal main entry and Leigh-Capreol is currently offered from about 4 a.m. to 10 p.m.; the P4 parking shuttle itself operates 24 hours.
Accessible parking
Travelers with a valid reduced-mobility permit can use P4, which has a wheelchair-friendly shuttle. For weekly parking, YUL currently offers the P4 weekly stay at the regular EconoParc weekly rate under the accessibility program. P9 has accessible spaces, but YUL specifically warns that its shuttle cannot transport wheelchair users. HotelParc also has accessible short-term spaces for stays of three hours or less.
Parking reservation QR code
If you reserve parking online, keep the confirmation QR code available on your phone or paper copy. The same reservation QR is used at the entrance and again when exiting the reserved lot.
Electric vehicles
Official YUL parking pages list EV charging in ValetParc, HotelParc and P4. Because charging availability, service fees and shared power can change, check the current parking page before choosing a garage specifically for charging.
YUL pickup and drop-off: curb zones, P4/P10 Express and CellParc
Dropping off a departing passenger
- Track airport traffic before entering the site.
- Outside busy periods, use the departures-level curb only for active unloading.
- Remain with the vehicle; parking or unattended vehicles are prohibited.
- During congestion, use P4 or P10 Express and the dedicated shuttle instead of forcing the main curb.
Picking up an arriving passenger
- Do not leave the waiting area just because the aircraft landed.
- Wait until the passenger has completed border/baggage procedures.
- Ask for the exact arrivals pickup zone A, B, C, D or E.
- Use the curb only for active pickup and leave immediately after loading.
CellParc — free waiting for up to 2 hours
CellParc is for drivers waiting for an arriving passenger. The driver must remain in the vehicle. There is no terminal shuttle and no Wi-Fi; seasonal restrooms are available in summer. Once the traveler is ready, they contact the driver for curb pickup.
P4 Express — alternate route to Leigh-Capreol / Door 28
P4 Express is free, open seven days and uses a dedicated shuttle route. Current airport guidance estimates about 5 minutes between P4 Express and the Leigh-Capreol area. The P4 Express area itself has no general time limit, but YUL asks drivers to complete pickup/drop-off promptly.
P10 Express — alternate route to Door 20
P10 Express also uses the dedicated shuttle route to Door 20. At P10 Express, take a ticket at entry: access is free for up to 2 hours; after that, regular P10 parking charges apply for the additional time.
How to avoid the YUL terminal-road bottleneck during peak hours
YUL’s current road guidance identifies roughly 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. as the period when P4/P10 Express alternatives are especially useful. Instead of automatically following “Departures” or “Arrivals” into the main curb, decide which route matches your passenger.
Where are YUL rental-car counters?
Rental-car counters have moved to P4 and are currently listed open daily from 7 a.m. to 1 a.m.. From the terminal, go to the Leigh-Capreol area accessible from Door 28 arrivals and take the free shuttle to P4.
Picking up a rental car
Use Door 28 → Leigh-Capreol → free P4 shuttle, then follow rental-company signage inside P4. Have the reservation, driving licence and payment card required by the company ready.
Returning a rental car
Drive directly to P4 and follow the rental-return signs instead of going to the terminal curb first. Allow enough time for fuel/charging requirements, vehicle inspection and the shuttle back to the terminal.
YUL accessibility: curb assistance, carts, changing room and hidden-disability support
Different organizations cover different parts of the trip: the airline handles flight-related wheelchair/boarding assistance; YUL offers public-area and terminal accessibility services; CATSA handles screening accommodations. Request airline assistance before travel rather than assuming an airport cart replaces wheelchair service.
Drop-off to public-area assistance
YUL offers assistance between the drop-off area and terminal/public area. Reservation is available through the airport or by calling 514-420-5030. Current guidance references priority access around Door 4 and other designated meeting locations.

Current service hours: international/mixed jetties about 4:30 a.m.–10 p.m.; transborder about 4:30 a.m.–8 p.m.; arrival gate to Canadian customs hall about 4:30 a.m.–8 p.m.. Wait at the designated area after security or after exiting the arrival gate.

Free lanyards indicate that a traveler may need more time or assistance; they do not provide expedited security. Current official pages list YUL information desks on departures and arrivals levels; availability cannot be reserved in advance.
Accessible changing room near Door 23
The changing/hygiene room is on the arrivals level near Door 23, in the corridor between international and domestic arrivals. Official specifications list a hoist capacity of 272 kg / 600 lb and changing-seat capacity of 175 kg / 386 lb. Travelers must supply a compatible stretcher if one is required; ADM does not provide physical assistance inside the room.

YUL lists seven ICE exchange locations in public and secure areas. USD, MXN and EUR are stocked at all offices; public offices also offer selected prepaid-card services.

Readystation kiosks on departures near Doors 2, 4 and 8 can convert cash bills to a prepaid card—useful when a cash-only traveler needs to pay a card-only airline fee.

YUL currently lists baggage porters daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.. Advance reservation is available, and the airport says a 12-hour lead time is required to guarantee a booked porter. Porters are identifiable by red YUL clothing.
Arrival essentials: bags, SIM and mail
If your airline tells you a delayed bag has reached YUL, follow its collection instructions rather than going straight to generic Lost & Found. Public-arrivals kiosks sell mobile/SIM services, and YUL has public-area mailboxes, but there is no full post office inside the terminal.

Is YUL open overnight?
