Blue Line trains are replaced by buses through Aug. 19
Metro Transit is running replacement buses across the full Blue Line between Target Field and Mall of America through Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2026. Buses are scheduled about every 15 minutes, but street traffic can make trips longer than normal rail travel.
Airport impact: this affects the MSP airport stations and the usual Terminal 2 Value Parking connection toward Terminal 1. Travelers using public transit or transferring between terminals should follow the temporary bus-stop signs and add a buffer.

What airport is MSP?
MSP is the IATA code and common passenger abbreviation for Minneapolis–St. Paul International Airport, the main commercial airport serving Minneapolis, St. Paul and the Twin Cities region. It is the code to use on flight searches, boarding passes, baggage tags and airline reservations.
The airport’s four-letter ICAO identifier is KMSP. FAA publications identify the field as Minneapolis-St Paul Intl/Wold-Chamberlain and use MSP as the FAA location identifier.

How to read the Terminal 1 map: Levels 2, 1 and T
MSP’s official Terminal 1 accessibility PDF is useful for understanding the building vertically. It is an older map, so this guide uses it only for stable orientation—not for current airline assignments, concessions or temporary construction.
Ticketing, security and all gates
- Airline ticketing/check-in is on Level 2.
- North and South security feed the secured concourses.
- Concourses A–G branch from the terminal mall/gate areas.
Baggage claim and arrivals
- Primary baggage-claim/arrivals level.

MSP security checkpoints, TSA PreCheck and MSP RESERVE
MSP recommends arriving 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before international travel. That clock should include airline check-in/bag-drop deadlines, parking or transit, security and the walk to the gate.

MSP RESERVE
Free optional security appointment. Book up to 7 days ahead or look for same-day availability. Current appointment windows: T1 North 3:45 a.m.–7:45 p.m.; T2 Checkpoint 2 3:45–8 a.m. and noon–4 p.m. Appointment choices are generally 240–60 minutes before departure.
REAL ID and ConfirmID
REAL ID enforcement is in effect. Since Feb. 1, 2026, a traveler without acceptable ID may attempt TSA ConfirmID for a $45 fee, but TSA says identity verification is not guaranteed. Carry an accepted ID whenever possible.
Overnight re-entry
Terminal 1 has one ticketing-level checkpoint open 24 hours. MSP’s Extended Stay Guide says both Terminal 2 checkpoints close roughly 10 p.m.–3:30 a.m.; if you leave T2 security then, you may not re-enter until a checkpoint opens.
How to travel between Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
There is no normal indoor walkway between the two passenger terminals. The standard public transfer is free LRT, with a separate courtesy shuttle for travelers who need an accessible/special-needs alternative.
Normal daytime/evening pattern: free LRT
MSP’s current Flights & Airlines page says trains normally run seven days a week, about every 10 minutes at peak times and every 10–15 minutes at other times. No fare is required for a terminal-to-terminal trip.
11 p.m.–4:30 a.m.: use the Metro Blue Line airport shuttle
The airport’s current airline/terminal page no longer describes ordinary inter-terminal trains as a simple 24/7 schedule. For the overnight window, it directs passengers to the Metro Blue Line airport shuttle. Follow current signs because temporary construction can alter the pattern.
Terminal 1 station route
The LRT station is below the Red and Blue parking ramps. From the terminal, follow Level T/tram signs toward the Red/Blue ramp area, then descend to the station.
Terminal 2 station route
The station is beside the Orange Ramp. From the terminal, use the Level 2 skyway toward the Orange Ramp and follow Light Rail Transit signs.
Courtesy accessible inter-terminal shuttle
For mobility challenges, older travelers, families with young children and other special needs, MSP provides a wheelchair-lift shuttle about every 20 minutes from 6 a.m.–10 p.m. Published pickup: T1 east roadway curb at Level 1 Gold Ramp; T2 ground level Purple Ramp. For 10 p.m.–6 a.m. on-demand service, the accessibility page lists 612-725-4681.
MSP to Minneapolis, St. Paul, Mall of America and regional destinations
METRO Blue Line
Under normal service the Blue Line links both MSP terminals with downtown Minneapolis and Mall of America. Because the line is under full-corridor bus replacement through Aug. 19, 2026, use Metro Transit’s live planner rather than a static trip-time estimate right now.
Route 54 toward St. Paul
Route 54 picks up at the Terminal 1 Transit Center on Level 1 of the Silver Ramp. There is no Metro Transit city-bus pickup at Terminal 2; reach Terminal 1 using the current inter-terminal service before taking Route 54.
Uber, Lyft and other app rides
Terminal 1: Ground Transportation Center, Level 1 of the Green/Gold ramp area. Terminal 2: Level 2 of the Purple Ramp; MSP moved the rideshare zone there in 2026 for shorter, weather-protected skybridge access. Confirm the license plate and have the driver say your name before entering.
Taxi and commercial ground transport
Taxi/shuttle/limo pickup uses each terminal’s ground-transport facilities. Follow terminal signage instead of a generic “arrivals curb” instruction. Accessible transport assistance should be arranged using the current airport accessibility page.
Rental cars
At Terminal 1, rental-car facilities are in the Silver Ramp; follow Level T/tram signs. At Terminal 2, rental counters are in the Ground Transportation Center on Level 1 of the Purple Ramp. For hand controls, MSP says airport rental agencies request at least 48 hours’ advance reservation.
MSP parking rates, height clearances, EV charging and prebooking
Rates below are current published drive-up maximums before tax. Online prebook prices can be lower; MSP says prebooking guarantees a space in the selected terminal option and eligible reservations can be changed/canceled for a full refund up to 12 hours before scheduled arrival.

Passenger pickup, drop-off, cell phone lots, FLEX Lane and T2 Express Lane
MSP prohibits curbside parking. For pickup, wait off-curb until the passenger has collected checked baggage and is physically outside at a known terminal/door or approved pickup zone.
Dropping off
- Confirm the operating airline and terminal.
- Follow current terminal roadway signs.
- Use an active unload zone; keep the driver with the vehicle.
- For wheelchair assistance at T1, use the airport’s current accessible drop-off guidance rather than the least-busy curb.
Picking up
- Track the flight.
- Ask whether the traveler checked bags.
- Wait in a cell lot until the traveler sends the exact door/zone.
- Enter the curb only for active loading; unattended vehicles may be ticketed/towed.
Two Cell Phone Waiting Lots on Post Road
East: 4921 Post Road, Minneapolis, MN 55450. West: 4211 Post Road, Minneapolis, MN 55450. The lots are about 0.2 mile apart between the terminals.
Express Drop-off / Pick-up — Purple Ramp Level 2
Free and open 24 hours. The lane sits beside the skybridge. If the person is not ready and you need to leave the vehicle, you can continue into T2 Hourly Parking rather than waiting in the Express Lane.
FLEX Lane and Upper East Roadway
The FLEX Lane uses the upper Departures loop and provides access through doors 5–8, then elevator/escalator/stairs plus a short skyway. MSP also promotes the Upper East Roadway as a pickup/drop-off alternative. For optimal wheelchair access, use the airport’s designated west-side accessible curb guidance.
Wheelchair, visual, hearing, cognitive and caregiver help at MSP

Wheelchair requests
Request wheelchair service from the airline, preferably well before travel. MSP’s accessibility FAQ says airlines ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. T1 accessible drop-off guidance lists Door 3 for Delta and Door 1B for other airlines.

International arrivals, baggage, customs and onward connections at MSP
The process depends on whether the inbound airport had U.S. preclearance. For a normal non-precleared international arrival, plan for immigration, checked-bag collection, customs and—if connecting—bag recheck and TSA screening.
Follow signs to CBP inspection
Keep passports and entry documents accessible. Travelers eligible for Global Entry or other CBP programs should follow the lane signs in the international-arrivals facility.
Claim every checked bag unless instructed otherwise
MSP’s security/international guidance tells arriving international passengers to claim checked baggage in the international facility even when the bag tag shows a destination beyond MSP.
Complete customs and leave the inspection area
Follow CBP instructions. Do not assume an onward boarding pass means you can bypass customs or keep a bag checked through without reclaiming it.
Recheck eligible bags for a protected connection
Follow the airline’s connection/bag-recheck signs. If the bag cannot be accepted there, you may need to take it to the onward carrier’s ticket counter before that carrier’s cutoff.
Clear TSA again when required
International connecting passengers may use connection-specific screening such as T1 Checkpoint 7 when eligible, or another operating checkpoint according to airport/airline signs.
Family facilities, food, water, smoking, overnight stays and hard-to-find services
Food open now
Restaurant/store hours change with flight schedules. Use the official Eat, Shop, Relax filters after you know your terminal/concourse rather than relying on a static restaurant-hours article.
Nursing and lactation
MSP publishes lactation centers and nursing rooms in both terminals, including multiple T1 concourse locations and a T2 location around H10/H11. Use the live map to choose the nearest room without backtracking.
Adult changing facilities
Selected single-use restrooms have adult changing tables; some have hoists. Current accessibility maps are the best source because not every restroom has the same equipment.
Water refill
MSP lists an airport-wide network of 80 water-refill units, including 10 HOPE Hydration stations. Bring an empty reusable bottle through security and refill afterward.
Smoking / vaping
No smoking, vaping or cannabis use is allowed inside MSP. Designated areas are outside at least 45 feet from entrances/intakes/windows. A connecting passenger who exits to smoke must allow time to be screened again.
On-site InterContinental
The InterContinental is the connected on-site hotel. Confirm its current terminal/security access and shuttle arrangements directly with the hotel, especially for a late-night itinerary.
Overnight / long-layover reality
Travelers Assistance
Use it for navigation, information and traveler support—not ticket changes. Central T1 office is near Concourse D. The airport assistance page lists booths across T1 and at T2 Level 1 near Door 8/baggage claim.
Armed Forces Service Center
Located inside security at the entrance to Concourse A, Level 2. It has eligibility rules and changing hours; call 612-726-9156 before relying on it for a long layover.

MSP’s current Lost & Found page places the office on the valet level of Terminal 1, reached by the central ticketing/baggage-claim elevators; turn left after reaching valet level. Current published office hours are 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. every day. The airport actively searches a reported item for 30 days.
2026 MSP changes that can invalidate an old screenshot
Construction matters here because rideshare, curb, ramp and terminal routes can move even when the flight terminal stays the same. Treat old social-media screenshots and saved pickup pins as temporary.
Terminal 2 growth
MSP continues Terminal 2 expansion work while passenger demand grows. Expect signage and walking paths to evolve; check the airport’s construction page when using the north end of the terminal.
2026 T2 rideshare move
App-based ride pickup/drop-off moved to Purple Ramp Level 2, providing weather protection and a shorter skybridge walk. Old curbside advice is now misleading.
T1 roadway alternatives
FLEX Lane and Upper East Roadway options can relieve main-roadway congestion. Follow digital signs because lane availability and construction traffic can change.
