Pittsburgh airport code PIT: new terminal, parking and travel help
Use PIT for passenger bookings to Pittsburgh International Airport. The airport’s ICAO identifier is KPIT. This updated guide also covers the transformed terminal, security, baggage claim, parking, 28X transit, pickup, rideshare, accessibility and international arrivals.
What is the Pittsburgh airport code?
PIT is the three-letter IATA code used for Pittsburgh International Airport on passenger reservations, boarding passes, baggage tags and flight-search systems. PIT is also the airport’s FAA location identifier.
The four-letter ICAO identifier is KPIT. ICAO identifiers are used primarily in aviation operations and flight-planning systems rather than normal consumer bookings.
Airport live checks & travel tools
Use current local conditions, official live-status links and planning calculators before you travel. Airline gate, terminal and flight times can change; your carrier remains the final source for flight-specific details.
Live flight center
Check the airport's official flight board, then confirm any last-minute gate or timing change with the airline.
Current airport-area weather
Useful for planning your trip to the airport. This is model-based local weather, not an aviation METAR or an airline operational forecast.
Quick official checks
Open the source that matches the decision you are making right now.
When should I reach the airport?
A planning estimate based on flight type and common time buffers. Always increase the buffer for severe weather, major holidays, unusual airport alerts or airline instructions.
Connection-risk checker
This is a planning heuristic, not an airline minimum-connection-time rule. International arrivals that require U.S. entry processing, baggage claim and security can need substantially more time.
Parking cost estimator
Uses the airport-specific rates stored in this article's configuration. Rates can change; verify availability and final pricing on the official parking page before driving in.
Passenger pickup readiness
Landing time is not curb-ready time. Add time for taxiing, deplaning, baggage claim, customs when applicable and walking to the correct pickup zone.
Check the official live source that matches your decision
A static airport guide can explain the process, but it should not pretend to know a live gate, current TSA queue or available parking space. Use these official pages for details that can change after publication.
The transformed PIT terminal: what changed for passengers?
Pittsburgh International Airport completed its major terminal transformation in 2025. The current passenger journey begins in a new landside terminal that sits directly beside the existing post-security gate complex.
The biggest practical change is that passengers no longer follow the old routine of using an underground people-mover train between a distant landside terminal and the airside building. The new Skybridge directly links the landside terminal with the gate, dining and shopping complex.
Departures level
Airline ticketing, bag drop and the consolidated passenger security area are on the upper departure side of the terminal.
Arrivals level
Baggage claim and passenger pickup are on the middle level. The Welcome Point gives greeters an indoor meeting place.
Ground level
Ground transportation functions connect travelers with buses, taxis, rideshare and other onward transportation.

Official Pittsburgh International Airport video · published December 22, 2025How to depart from Pittsburgh International Airport
PIT recommends reaching the airport about two hours before a domestic departure and three hours before an international departure. During peak periods, especially early-morning departures, the airport advises allowing additional time.
Check your operating airline and flight status
Codeshare itineraries can show more than one airline name. Use the operating carrier when deciding which counter, baggage policy and rebooking contact applies.
Follow signs to the upper Departures level
The new terminal’s top level serves departing passengers. Drivers should use current airport signs instead of older terminal-roadway instructions.
Complete airline check-in and baggage drop
Airline counter opening times and checked-bag cutoffs vary by carrier and flight. Confirm your airline’s rule before arriving close to departure time.
Use the appropriate security lane
Follow the live terminal signs for Standard, Priority, CLEAR or TSA PreCheck depending on availability and your eligibility.
Cross the Skybridge and follow the current gate
After screening, follow signs toward the post-security concourses. Confirm the gate again because airline apps and airport displays can update after check-in.
Security, TSA PreCheck, CLEAR and REAL ID at PIT
The transformed airport consolidated passenger screening into one larger security area. PIT’s terminal modernization material describes 12 security lanes with updated screening equipment and a larger post-security recompose space.
The airport currently displays estimated waits for Standard, Priority, CLEAR and TSA PreCheck. These figures can change rapidly and monitored queue estimates may not capture overflow outside the measured area.
Standard screening
Prepare liquids, electronics and other cabin items according to current TSA requirements.
TSA PreCheck
PIT offers TSA PreCheck. Eligibility and operating conditions remain subject to TSA.
REAL ID
Adults flying domestically should carry a REAL ID-compliant license or another TSA-accepted form of identification.
Airlines and nonstop destinations at PIT
Pittsburgh International is served by a mix of major U.S. carriers, low-cost airlines, regional operators and international carriers. The current airport directory includes airlines such as American, Delta, United, Southwest, Alaska, Allegiant, Breeze, Frontier, JetBlue, Southern Airways, Air Canada, Aer Lingus and British Airways, with seasonal and charter operators also appearing in PIT’s listings.
Route frequency changes by season. PIT’s current destination directory includes domestic service across major U.S. hubs and leisure markets plus international destinations such as London, Dublin, Montréal, Cancún and Punta Cana depending on current season and carrier schedule.
Airline directory
Use the airport’s airline list for current carrier contacts and flight links.
Nonstop map
Check the current destination page before assuming a seasonal route operates on your travel date.
Gate assignment
Do not memorize a concourse by airline. Follow the live flight record and boarding pass.
Baggage claim and the new arrivals flow
The transformed PIT uses a modernized baggage system and eight larger baggage-claim carousels. Electronic displays direct passengers to the carousel assigned to the arriving flight.
The arrivals level also shortens the transition from baggage claim to parking, rental cars, public transport and rideshare. If someone is meeting you, the indoor Welcome Point gives both sides a clear place to coordinate before walking outside.
Eight carousels
Use the live flight display to confirm the correct baggage carousel rather than guessing from the airline.
Welcome Point
The indoor meeting area is on the arrivals level between the north and south terrace areas.
Pickup level
Drivers picking up arriving passengers use the middle Arrivals level outside baggage claim.
Customs, passports and Mobile Passport Control at PIT
Passengers arriving directly from an international destination without U.S. preclearance must complete the applicable U.S. Customs and Border Protection entry process. Passport, visa and admission requirements depend on the traveler’s citizenship and immigration status.
PIT supports Mobile Passport Control for eligible travelers. MPC can allow eligible U.S. citizens, Canadian citizens and other qualifying users defined by CBP to submit certain passport and trip information through the official app before inspection.
Direct international arrival
Follow signs for passport control, baggage and customs. Do not schedule a tight pickup time based only on aircraft landing time.
Precleared arrival
Flights departing from an airport with U.S. preclearance can arrive more like a domestic flight. The operating airline can confirm the process for the specific route.
Current PIT parking options after the terminal transformation
The old parking layout has changed. Current passenger products include the Shuttle Lot, Terminal Lot, Terminal Garage, Free Wait Lot and reservation-only PIT Executive.
| Parking product | Best use | Terminal access | Important detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shuttle Lot | Lower-cost longer stays | Airport shuttle | No pedestrian route to the terminal. |
| Terminal Lot | Convenience without garage parking | About a 3–5 minute walk | Pre-booking can reduce the published rate. |
| Terminal Garage | Covered parking near terminal | About a 3–5 minute walk | EV charging spaces are subject to availability. |
| Free Wait Lot | Waiting to pick up an arriving passenger | Holding lot; not terminal parking | The first hour is currently free. |
| PIT Executive | Premium reservation parking | Short walk | Reservation required; no drive-up availability. |
PIT’s published parking prices can differ between advance-reservation offers and drive-up rates, and mandatory local taxes are added. Because prices and inventory can change, use the airport’s parking checkout for the amount that applies to your dates instead of relying on an old screenshot or search snippet.
Pickup, drop-off and meeting an arriving passenger
Passenger drop-off
Departing travelers use the upper, third-level Departures curb near airline ticketing and security.
Passenger pickup
Arriving travelers are picked up at the middle, second-level Arrivals curb outside baggage claim.
Free Wait Lot
Use the waiting lot until the traveler has deplaned, collected baggage and is ready to come outside.
Inside the terminal, the Welcome Point is the airport’s preferred meeting location for many greeters. PIT describes it as the point where domestic and international arriving passengers pass on their way toward baggage claim or ground transportation.
28X Airport Flyer, Uber, Lyft, taxis and rental cars
The new ground-transportation layout brings rental cars, buses, taxis and rideshare closer together around the transformed terminal complex.
28X Airport Flyer
Pittsburgh Regional Transit serves the airport, Downtown Pittsburgh and Oakland seven days a week.
Uber & Lyft
Current PIT instructions direct app-based rideshare passengers across the road from Door 7 on the Ground Level.
Taxis and vehicles for hire
Follow airport signs to the designated commercial transportation area rather than accepting an unsolicited ride.
Rental cars
Rental counters connect through the covered area between the Terminal Garage and pre-security terminal.
Cash users should have exact change. PIT also points riders to a ticket vending machine near Door 8 and mobile-ticket options through Pittsburgh Regional Transit.
Wheelchair assistance, hidden disabilities and accessible facilities
PIT provides accessible parking, accessible and family restrooms, universal changing facilities, nursing rooms, animal-relief areas, visual wayfinding and airport assistance. Wheelchair and porter services should be requested through the passenger’s airline.
Wheelchair service
Reserve through the airline when booking if possible. It can also be requested at the airline’s ticket counter.
Sunflower Program
Free Hidden Disabilities Sunflower identifiers are available from PIT information desks. The program does not provide expedited security.
Airport assistance
Information desks and Airport Ambassadors can help with navigation and many non-medical traveler questions.
PIT’s post-security animal-relief area is in Concourse D across from Gate D1. A pre-security relief area is outside near the entrance to the car-rental building.
Kids area, nursing rooms, sensory support and practical amenities
Kids Play Area
The family play area is near the beginning of Concourse C and includes seating, activities and nearby family facilities.
Nursing rooms
PIT says nursing rooms are available on every floor of the pre-security terminal and on every post-security concourse.
Presley’s Place
The sensory room near Gate A7 includes quieter spaces, adjustable lighting, calming activities and a realistic aircraft-cabin experience.
Family and adult restrooms
Family-assistance restrooms are available throughout the airport, with universal changing tables at selected locations.
Traveling with a child
TSA has separate guidance for formula, breast milk, strollers and car seats. Children under 18 generally do not need identification for U.S. domestic TSA screening, although airlines may have their own documentation rules.
What can you do after security?
The transformed airport retains the A, B, C and D gate concourses and expanded its dining and retail program. Current airport listings include local Pittsburgh names alongside national brands, so use the map to find what is actually open near your gate.
Restaurants
PIT’s current directory includes local and national dining options. Opening hours can differ by day and flight schedule.
Outdoor terraces
The transformed terminal includes outdoor spaces. The public UPMC Terrace can be accessed pre-security when conditions permit.
USO Center
The PIT USO near Gate C2 serves eligible active-duty and retired military members and their families.
Lost baggage vs lost property: contact the correct place
Where you lost the item determines who should handle the report. Sending a checked-bag problem to airport Lost and Found can delay resolution because airlines control checked luggage.
| What was lost? | Who to contact | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Restroom, baggage claim, concessions, parking or common airport area | PIT Lost and Found | File the airport’s official online lost-property report. |
| Item left on the aircraft | Operating airline | Report it directly to the airline. |
| Checked baggage | Operating airline | Open a delayed/damaged/lost bag claim with the carrier. |
| Item near airline gate or ticket counter | Airline first | Use the carrier’s baggage or customer-service process. |
PIT says filing an airport Lost and Found report is free. Be cautious of unrelated third-party sites that charge a fee to submit a lost-item claim.
Common PIT problems and the fastest next step
| Problem | Likely issue | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Your map shows the old terminal or airport train | The source predates the 2025 terminal opening | Open the current PIT interactive map and follow new roadway signs. |
| Parking lot name does not match an old reservation guide | The parking system was reorganized | Check Shuttle Lot, Terminal Lot, Terminal Garage or your booked product on the live parking page. |
| You cannot find a rideshare pickup | You may be on the wrong terminal level | Current airport guidance sends Uber and Lyft users to the Ground Level across from Door 7. |
| Your checked bag is missing | Checked baggage is airline-controlled | File the claim with the operating airline, not airport Lost and Found. |
| You need a wheelchair at departure | Wheelchair service is airline-managed | Request it through the airline or at its ticket counter. |
| You reached PIT during overnight checkpoint closure | The terminal may be open while TSA is closed | Wait landside and confirm your airline counter/checkpoint opening time. |

Official sources used for this Pittsburgh airport guide
Airport-code and aviation identifiers were checked against FAA references. The transformed terminal, security, baggage claim, parking, ground transportation, accessibility, family facilities, international-arrival information, contacts and lost-property process were checked against current Pittsburgh International Airport and Allegheny County Airport Authority pages.
Parking prices, flight gates, security waits, airline routes and transportation schedules can change. Those details are linked to current official pages instead of being presented as permanently fixed.
Use PIT for the booking, then use current airport information for the trip
The essential code answer is simple: PIT is Pittsburgh International Airport and KPIT is the ICAO identifier. What changed substantially is the physical airport experience: the transformed terminal, new roadway levels, reorganized parking and direct Skybridge connection mean older Pittsburgh airport instructions can now send travelers the wrong way.
Before leaving home, check the operating airline, flight status, parking product and live security information. If someone is picking you up, send them your actual curb-ready status rather than only the scheduled landing time.
