Seattle Airport (SEA): confirm the code, then navigate the trip

Start with SEA vs BFI vs PAE, then use the current terminal, security, international-arrival, parking and transit guidance to finish the actual airport task—not just decode three letters.

Quick answer: SEA is the IATA and FAA code for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The ICAO code is KSEA. The airport is in SeaTac, Washington, USA.

IATA, ICAO and abbreviation

What is the Seattle airport code?

For normal passenger travel, SEA is the Seattle airport abbreviation you will see most often. FAA terminal-procedure listings identify Seattle-Tacoma International as SEA (KSEA): SEA is the passenger-facing three-letter identifier, while KSEA is used in international aviation and flight-planning contexts.

Do not search only by the word “Seattle.” The metro area has other airports. Match the three-letter code on the actual ticket before booking parking, a hotel, rental-car return or airport transportation.
Airport name and abbreviation history

Why is Seattle airport code SEA, and is “Sea-Tac” still the airport name?

SEA is not a new marketing code. The Port of Seattle says SEA has been the airport’s official identifier since 1943. It is the code printed on airline reservations and baggage tags.

SEA

Official airport identifier

Use SEA for passenger bookings, baggage tags and normal airport-code searches. The ICAO identifier remains KSEA.

NAME

Full name did not change

The official name remains Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Airport branding increasingly uses “SEA Airport,” but that does not rename the airport.

TAC

“Sea-Tac” is a nickname

The Port calls “Sea-Tac” a regional nickname. The airport is physically in the City of SeaTac, so SEA branding also helps separate the airport from the municipal government.

Ticket check: If your reservation says SEA, you are going to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Do not substitute BFI or PAE just because a search result also calls them Seattle-area airports.
The confusion that costs travelers time

SEA vs BFI vs PAE: which Seattle-area airport is on your ticket?

Main commercial airport
SEA

Seattle-Tacoma International Airport

SeaTac, Washington. This is the region’s major domestic and international passenger airport and the default meaning of “Seattle airport” for most airline trips.

ICAO: KSEA

Different Seattle airport
BFI

King County International Airport-Boeing Field

About four miles south of downtown Seattle. It is about four miles south of downtown and serves general aviation, cargo, Boeing activity and a small amount of scheduled passenger service. Do not assume BFI and SEA share a terminal or ground-transport plan.

ICAO: KBFI

Everett / north metro
PAE

Seattle Paine Field International Airport

Everett, roughly 30 miles north of downtown Seattle. The Snohomish County airport has scheduled passenger service from its separate passenger terminal; it is not a north concourse of SEA.

SEA Airport levels: ticketing, baggage claim, skybridges and garage transportation

The Port’s May 29, 2026 Ground Transportation & Parking Garage map is more useful when translated into a simple vertical plan. If a driver, rideshare app or shuttle says “Level 3” or “Level 4,” it is usually referring to the parking garage—not a numbered passenger terminal.

Ticketing LevelAirline check-in and Departures Drive. Use this level before security unless your airline directs you elsewhere.
Baggage Claim LevelArrivals Drive, baggage claims and airporter/public-transit curb access. Skybridges 1–6 connect toward the garage.
Garage Level 4Reserved Parking, accessible parking, EV parking and the connection toward Link light rail.
Garage Level 3Main ground-transport plaza for Uber, Lyft, taxis, courtesy vehicles and door-to-door vans.
Garage Level 5General Parking plus ADA-designated accessible parking.
Garage Level 7General Parking and a large group of EV charging stalls.
Garage Level 1General Parking, cruise lobby and charter-bus access.
Over-height areaSeparate limited parking for vehicles over the main garage’s 6 ft 10 in clearance; availability is first-come.

How the skybridges help you orient yourself

The official diagram labels Skybridges 1–6 across the terminal front. For mobility pickups, the same PDF specifically points to Baggage Claim near Skybridge 2 / Door 10 and Skybridge 5 / Door 22. The Link station connection is on the garage side; the map estimates about a 7–12 minute walk depending on your starting point and pace.

Public transit is not all in the garage

The PDF marks public-transit access on International Boulevard, but the current Port bus page has newer route-by-route stop details. Use the PDF to understand the physical layout and the live bus page to choose the actual route/stop. Scheduled airporters and charters use separate pickup instructions.

Operating-airline logic

Which concourse does my airline use at SEA?

Use this as a planning pattern, not a fixed gate promise. SEA’s official airline directory lists typical concourses, but flights can move. A codeshare may display one airline brand while another carrier actually operates the flight.

Airline/groupTypical official concourse listingWhat to verify
Alaska AirlinesC, D and NBoarding pass and live gate; N requires train
Delta Air LinesA and BOperating flight and current gate
American AirlinesDCodeshare operating carrier
Frontier / SouthwestBCurrent boarding gate
Many long-haul international carriersSDeparture gate; international arrivals may use IAF
AMC / selected changing assignmentsRefer to boarding passDo not rely on a static terminal list
Codeshare rule: search the phrase “operated by” on your ticket. That carrier’s check-in instructions, baggage counter and real-time gate information matter more than the marketing flight number.
Secure-side transfer

SEA Underground: when you must take the train

Blue / South Loop

Links the south-side train stations serving A, B and the detached S Concourse.

Green / North Loop

Links the north-side stations serving C, D and the detached N Concourse.

Yellow shuttle

Connects the A and D train hubs so passengers can move between north and south train systems.

SEA says trains normally arrive about every three minutes. N and S cannot be reached by a normal secure-side walk; use the train. If a train interruption occurs, the airport may activate over-the-ramp buses, so follow staff and digital signs instead of trying to improvise a route.

Connection decision guide

Domestic and separate-ticket connections at SEA

1

Domestic, same itinerary

Stay airside if possible. All gates connect after security; N/S require SEA Underground. Recheck the live gate before walking or boarding a train.

2

Domestic, separate tickets

If bags are not interlined, you may have to leave security, claim bags, check in again and clear TSA. Airline check-in and bag-drop cutoffs can make a short connection impossible.

3

International arrival

Unless precleared, collect bags first, complete CBP, recheck bags for the onward flight and pass TSA. SEA recommends at least three hours for international connections.

Do not use walking time alone to judge a connection. Ticket protection, baggage handling, CBP, TSA, train transfer and boarding cutoff matter more than the physical distance between gates.
Unusual but important SEA sequence

International arrivals at SEA: bags first, then passport control

Unless your flight arrives from a U.S. preclearance airport, SEA’s International Arrivals Facility uses a bags-first process. Connecting passengers are not exempt from collecting checked baggage.

1

Claim every checked bag first

Collect baggage in the IAF before the CBP interview, including bags tagged to an onward destination. Peak international processing can take an hour or longer.

2

Complete CBP processing

Follow the lane matching your travel status. Mobile Passport Control can help eligible travelers. SEA currently says Global Entry expedited arrival processing is unavailable until further notice, so verify again before travel.

3

Exit locally or turn right to connect

After CBP, Seattle-destination passengers exit. Connecting passengers follow the recheck route; Alaska and Delta agents may assist with recheck/rebooking when staffed, while other carriers may require you to exit and return to ticketing.

4

Use the IAF TSA checkpoint when it is open

The official connection page lists the IAF TSA checkpoint at 6 a.m.–9:45 p.m. Pacific. If it is closed, you must exit to the pre-security side and use a main terminal checkpoint. TSA PreCheck is available only at main-terminal checkpoints, not the IAF connection checkpoint.

How much international connection time should you allow?

SEA’s current connection page recommends 120–180 minutes. Use the upper end—or more—for separate tickets, large families, mobility needs, peak summer/holiday arrivals or when a new airline check-in may be required.

Separate ticket warning: a bag tag showing your final city does not remove the U.S. arrival requirement to claim the bag at SEA. A second airline may also have an independent bag-drop cutoff and may not protect you if the first flight is late.
Six checkpoint choices

SEA security checkpoints, ID rules, Spot Saver and problem-solving

Checked Aug. 11, 2026

Every SEA main-terminal checkpoint can reach every gate after screening. Choose by current wait + screening eligibility, not only by the checkpoint nearest your concourse.

Before leaving home: check the ID, not just the boarding pass

TSA no longer accepts a non-REAL-ID-compliant state driver’s license or ID as the normal domestic checkpoint credential. Use a REAL ID-compliant credential or another TSA-accepted document such as a passport. TSA says some acceptable IDs may be used for up to two years after expiration, and children under 18 generally are not required to provide ID for U.S. domestic screening, although airlines can have their own rules.

SEA-specific backup: the Port says TSA ConfirmID began February 1, 2026 as an optional identity-verification route for travelers who arrive without REAL ID or another accepted credential, with a published $45 fee. Treat this as a fallback—not a reason to travel without the correct document.

SEA Spot Saver

Spot Saver is free and requires no membership. The current Port page lists it at Checkpoints 2 and 4; reservations can generally be made up to five days ahead and appointment times are offered about 240–60 minutes before departure.

If TSA stops an item: check it, mail it or donate eligible toiletries

If time and airline rules allow, return to ticketing and check the item. SEA also has Mail It Home kiosks near security; a May 2026 Port guide specifically highlights entrances to Checkpoints 3, 4 and 5. Donation Drop bins are at every checkpoint entrance for eligible sealed or lightly used personal-care items that cannot pass the carry-on liquid rule. Medications and hazardous/prohibited mailing items need different handling.

Checkpoint hours change. SEA labels all checkpoint hours and screening types approximate. Recheck digital signs and the official page on travel day; an open checkpoint does not override an airline bag-drop or boarding cutoff.
Downtown Seattle without highway traffic

Link light rail from SEA Airport to downtown Seattle

1

Find SeaTac/Airport Station

From baggage claim, go up to the skybridge/garage level and follow Link signs. The 2026 ground-transportation PDF estimates a 7–12 minute walk between the terminal and Link station depending on pace and starting point.

$3

Pay before boarding

Sound Transit currently charges a $3 adult one-way flat fare on the 1 Line. ORCA, contactless credit/debit, ticket machines and Transit GO Ticket are supported. Youth 18 and under ride free; qualifying low-income and senior/disabled fares are $1.

38m

Ride toward downtown

The Port describes the airport-to-downtown trip as about 38 minutes. Trains generally run every 8–10 minutes through much of the day, but check Sound Transit alerts because maintenance and elevator outages can affect the trip.

Train-to-Plane mobility shuttle

If the garage walk is difficult, SEA provides a free electric cart between the Link station and terminal area. The 2026 official ground-transportation map says it loads near Skybridges 5 and 6 and operates daily 5 a.m.–midnight.

Late-night fallback

Sound Transit introduced the ST 570 Night Bus between SeaTac/Airport and downtown Seattle in March 2026. Check the current schedule instead of assuming Link runs all night.

Beyond downtown Seattle

Regional buses, airporters and charter buses: where to wait

Do not use the Link platform as a universal bus pickup point. SEA’s 2026 ground-transport map separates public transit, scheduled airporters and charter coaches.

BUS

Public transit buses

The May 2026 PDF is a useful orientation map, but route numbers can change faster than the diagram. The current live Port bus page lists Metro RapidRide A, 161 and 156 by the Link station plus overnight Route 124 on the airport drives; Sound Transit 560 and 574 use the lower terminal drive, while the 570 night bus uses International Boulevard/S. 176th. Use the live bus page as the final authority.

AIR

Scheduled airporters

Port guidance places scheduled airporter pickup on the Arrivals Drive near the south end of baggage claim; Door 00/02 is common, but the provider’s current instructions control.

GRP

Charter groups

After everyone has baggage, call SEA Ground Transportation at 206-787-5906 to dispatch the coach. The charter-bus lot is on garage Level 1 at the north end.

Vancouver, Olympic Peninsula, Whidbey, San Juans or other regional trip? Use the Port’s current airporter directory first; private operators, destinations and pickup doors change more often than airport-code pages are updated.

Uber, Lyft, taxi, pickup and accessible curb strategy

APP

Standard Uber and Lyft

Standard app-based rideshare pickup is on garage Level 3. Cross a terminal skybridge and follow the provider/section signs; the official 2026 map separates Uber and Lyft areas.

TAXI

Metered taxis

Taxis use garage Level 3. If you need an accessible taxi, the Port’s 2026 accessibility map directs travelers to SP Plus Taxi Service at 206-708-6504.

CELL

Cell Phone Lot

Use the free waiting lot at 2623 S. 170th Street until the passenger has baggage and sends a specific meeting point. Do not wait on roadway shoulders or circle continuously.

CURB

Drive-level congestion

During heavy peaks, SEA may direct drivers to the opposite arrivals/departures drive. Treat that as a current-conditions tactic, not a permanent pickup rule.

Accessible taxi pickup can move to the terminal curb

The 2026 official PDF identifies mobility-assistance taxi pickup on the Baggage Claim level near Skybridge 2 / Door 10 and Skybridge 5 / Door 22. Tell the taxi provider you need mobility assistance so the vehicle meets you there instead of requiring the garage transfer.

Accessible Uber/Lyft curb pickup requires coordination

Passengers needing additional assistance may request app-based pickup at the curb rather than the garage. Tell the driver curb pickup is needed, then notify SEA Ground Transportation at 206-787-5906 with the driver’s name and license-plate number. Follow any newer app/airport instructions if they differ on travel day.

Simple pickup workflow: driver waits off-terminal → passenger collects bags → passenger confirms door/accessible meeting location → driver approaches. For international arrivals, “landed” is especially early because bags are claimed before CBP processing.

Do not enter the main garage with a taller vehicle. Follow signs to the limited over-height parking area.

More than 30 days

SEA says extended stays over 30 days require an online reservation or special arrangement with the Public Parking Office.

Reservation ≠ ADA/EV guarantee

The 2026 PDF specifically says Reserved Parking does not guarantee an accessible or EV stall; those specialized stalls remain first-come.

Off-site but airport-operated transfer

Rental cars at SEA: do not look for counters inside the terminal

SEA’s Rental Car Facility is off-site at 3150 S. 160th Street, SeaTac, WA 98188. Free dedicated shuttles operate 24/7/365 and pick up outside the baggage-claim lower drive at the north and south ends. The airport describes the facility as about a five-minute shuttle drive from the terminal under normal conditions.

Return-day buffer: add fuel/return inspection time, shuttle wait and the ride back to the terminal before your normal two-hour domestic or three-hour international airport-arrival target.
Accessibility and sensory planning

Wheelchair, Link assistance, sensory rooms and hidden-disability support

AIR

Airline wheelchair service

Request wheelchair, boarding and aircraft assistance from the operating airline. Airport staff can help with terminal navigation, but airline-controlled assistance must be arranged with the carrier.

LINK

Train-to-Plane shuttle

The free cart runs between the Link station and terminal side of garage Level 4. The current PDF lists loading near Skybridges 5 and 6 and daily service from 5 a.m. to midnight.

P

Accessible parking

ADA-designated General Parking is on Level 5; Reserved Parking has accessible stalls on Level 4. Accessible and EV stalls remain first-come even when Reserved Parking itself is booked.

CALM

Sensory rooms

SEA lists rooms near the Underground A Station and on Level 3 above Gate C3 near The Lookout. Call 206-787-5229 and press 1 for the access code; current listed hours are 4 a.m.–midnight.

SUN

Sunflower and language help

Information desks can provide Invisible Disabilities Sunflower lanyards, Language Line translation, Braille/print accessibility information and basic first-aid supplies.

ADA

Airport ADA coordinator

SEA ADA Coordinator: 206-787-3132. For checkpoint assistance, TSA Cares recommends advance contact when possible.

Where a real person can help

SEA says its information desks are staffed daily 7 a.m.–9 p.m.: pre-security on ticketing between Checkpoints 4 and 5, pre-security on baggage claim near Checkpoint 1, and post-security in A Concourse between Gates A5 and A6.

Layover and practical services

Nursing, prayer, pets, baggage storage, food and help desks

Nursing and family facilities

SEA provides nursing rooms/suites around the terminal, including new space in the expanded C Concourse. Search “nursing” in the official indoor map for the closest current location.

Interfaith prayer and meditation

Rooms are available near the Underground A Station area and in the expanded C Concourse above/near C3. The newer C room includes features such as Qibla direction and foot-washing access.

Pet/service-animal relief

Multiple landside and secure-side relief areas exist. Use the interactive map instead of relying on a single old gate reference.

Baggage storage

Smarte Carte storage is on Baggage Claim between Carousels 9 and 10. The current Port page lists 7 a.m.–10 p.m. daily, with short meal closures around 11:30 a.m.–noon and 6–6:30 p.m.

More than suitcase storage

The same baggage-services page lists frozen/refrigerated storage, baggage wrap, car-seat/stroller rentals and key/document storage. Ask about item eligibility before relying on the service for an unusual item.

Porting help

SEA lists baggage-porting providers including Express Bag Services and Axel, plus military SkyCap assistance. Fees/availability vary, so arrange directly rather than assuming a porter will be waiting.

Long layover: storage is landside at baggage claim. If you are already post-security, budget time to exit, store/retrieve the item and clear TSA again.
Layover decision support

SEA lounges: know the concourse before you walk

All gates are connected post-security, but N and S require the Underground train. Lounge access rules and hours belong to the lounge/airline and can change, so use this as a location guide rather than an admission guarantee.

The Club at SEAA Concourse near A12; second location on S Concourse mezzanine above S10.
Alaska LoungesCurrent official directory lists locations near C16A, above N15 and near D1; the new C expansion also adds major Alaska lounge space.
DeltaDelta Sky Club near A1 plus Delta lounge/Delta One space near A11.
United / Centurion / British AirwaysUnited near A9; Centurion in Central Terminal mezzanine; British Airways in S near S10.
Do not change concourses just for a lounge without checking time. Satellite-train travel, lounge queues and boarding cutoff can erase the benefit of a short visit.
Current airport changes

What changed at SEA Airport in 2026: C Concourse and north ticketing

C Concourse Expansion opened June 11, 2026

The expanded C Concourse adds four floors and turns a formerly smaller building into a much larger passenger area between C and D. New features include the Tree at C / Grand Stairs gathering space, The Lookout, sensory and nursing rooms, an interfaith room, performance/art space, new dining/retail and major Alaska lounge space.

VIEW

The Lookout at C

Upper-level space with airfield and mountain views; useful as a landmark for the newer C amenities.

CALM

Support rooms moved into the travel flow

The new sensory, nursing and interfaith spaces mean older static amenity lists can now send travelers to outdated locations.

FOOD

More concessions

New dining, retail and small-business concepts opened with the expanded multi-level concourse; check the live directory for actual hours.

SEA Gateway / north ticketing is also fully open

Port updates in 2026 describe the north ticketing redevelopment as fully open, including a new Alaska Airlines ticketing/check-in area with 62 check-in and bag-drop positions. That is another reason an older terminal screenshot may not match what you see today.

Official accessibility video

See SEA’s sensory and interfaith spaces before your trip

For neurodiverse travelers, families and anyone planning a quiet-space route, this Port of Seattle video gives useful visual context before arriving. The airport has since added a second sensory/prayer location in the expanded C Concourse, so pair the video with the current map.

Late-night reality check

Overnight and very early flights at SEA

Checkpoint 4 is the 24-hour checkpoint

Current airport guidance lists Checkpoint 4 as open 24 hours, but individual airline check-in and bag-drop hours are separate.

Link light rail is not an all-night assumption

Use the current Sound Transit schedule. The ST 570 Night Bus was introduced as a late-night airport/downtown fallback.

Food and lounges can close

An airport operating overnight does not mean restaurants, lounges and airline counters are open. Check the specific service before relying on it.

High-value Seattle-specific connection

SEA Airport to Seattle cruise terminals

Seattle is a major Alaska-cruise gateway, so many SEA arrivals are not heading downtown first. The Port describes airport-to-cruise-terminal travel as roughly 30–40 minutes by road under normal conditions for both major terminals, but traffic can add time.

Pier 66 — Bell Street

2225 Alaskan Way, Seattle, WA 98121. Rideshare and taxi can provide a direct airport-to-terminal trip. Build additional time on cruise embarkation days.

Pier 91 — Smith Cove

2001 W Garfield Way, Seattle, WA 98119. There is no direct Link station at the terminal; taxi, rideshare or a prearranged cruise/motorcoach transfer is normally simpler for luggage-heavy travelers.

Do not book a tight same-day flight-to-ship connection. Flight delay, baggage claim, airport ground transportation, highway traffic and cruise check-in deadlines all stack together.

SEA says filing an official Lost & Found report is free. The system sends a confirmation, an update around day three and then periodic updates for about a month. Airport Lost & Found holds items for at least 30 days.

Office location and secure-side drop boxes

The current Port page places the Lost & Found office on Baggage Claim across from Carousel 13. Found-property drop boxes are also distributed post-security. Office hours have changed across recent Port updates, so use the current page rather than an old cached schedule.

Scam warning: a third-party site charging money just to file a SEA Airport lost-item report is not the official free reporting process.

Frequently asked questions about the Seattle airport code and SEA travel

What is the Seattle airport code?

The primary commercial airport serving Seattle is Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. Its IATA and FAA code is SEA, and its ICAO code is KSEA.

Is SEA the same as Sea-Tac Airport?

Yes. SEA is the code used for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, commonly called Sea-Tac or SEA Airport. The airport is physically in SeaTac, Washington.

What is the ICAO code for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport?

The ICAO code is KSEA. Airline tickets and baggage tags normally use the three-letter IATA code SEA instead.

What does the Seattle airport abbreviation SEA mean?

SEA is the three-letter IATA airport identifier for Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. It is the code most travelers see on tickets, boarding passes and baggage tags.

Is BFI the Seattle airport code?

BFI is the code for King County International Airport-Boeing Field, about four miles south of downtown Seattle. It is a different airport from SEA and is not Seattle’s primary large commercial airport.

What airport is PAE near Seattle?

PAE is Seattle Paine Field International Airport in Everett, about 30 miles north of downtown Seattle. It has scheduled passenger service but is separate from SEA.

Should I book SEA, BFI or PAE?

For most major domestic and international airline itineraries, SEA is the main Seattle-area airport. BFI and PAE serve different passenger and aviation markets, so always match the code on the ticket before booking parking, a hotel or ground transportation.

How many terminals does SEA Airport have?

SEA has one main terminal complex with six concourses: A, B, C, D, N and S. N and S are satellite concourses that require the SEA Underground train.

Can I walk between every gate at SEA?

A, B, C and D can be reached through the connected secure-side terminal. N and S are detached satellite concourses and require the SEA Underground train under normal operations.

Do I need to go through TSA again when changing concourses at SEA?

Normally no for a domestic airside connection. All gates are connected after security. International arrivals without U.S. preclearance must complete the arrival process and TSA screening before an onward flight.

How early should I arrive at Seattle airport?

SEA recommends arriving about two hours before a domestic departure and three hours before an international departure. Add time for parking, baggage, accessibility assistance, peak periods and airline cutoffs.

Which SEA checkpoint is open 24 hours?

Checkpoint 4 is currently listed by SEA as open 24 hours. All checkpoint hours and screening types are approximate and can change for TSA operational reasons.

Is SEA Spot Saver free?

This refresh prioritizes the Port of Seattle/SEA for airport operations, the May 29, 2026 Ground Transportation & Parking Garage PDF for garage/accessible-transport layout, TSA for federal screening rules, CBP for entry processing, Sound Transit for Link, King County for BFI and Snohomish County for PAE.

Live SERP results were used to identify what travelers still have to search for after reading ordinary airport-code pages—not as a factual source. Operational facts such as gates, TSA hours, trusted-traveler availability, transit alerts, parking capacity and rideshare zones are linked to the agency that owns the current information.

Internal-link audit: the Airport-Guides.org post sitemap could not be reliably retrieved/index-verified in this environment during the refresh. No internal URL is guessed simply to increase link count.
