Why is Orlando airport code MCO instead of ORL?
McCoy Air Force Base
The MCO identifier traces to the former McCoy Air Force Base at the site. That is why the modern Orlando airport code does not simply mirror the city name.

Terminal C wing opened
A new Terminal C wing opened with additional gates, and Virgin Atlantic moved its MCO operation from Terminal A to Terminal C. Do not rely on an old screenshot or previous trip.

MCO is installing camera-based parking guidance across Garage C, A, B and Terminal Top through summer 2027. Construction is phased so garages remain usable; follow temporary signs and live availability.
Terminal C walking route improvements
GOAA approved longer moving walkways between Terminal C, the Train Station and rental-car lobby. Until projects are complete, plan around the current walking route rather than future renderings.
Spirit Airlines ceased MCO operations
GOAA announced that Spirit canceled all flights and began winding down operations at MCO. Older airline/terminal lists may still show Spirit, so confirm every current carrier through the official MCO airline directory.

MCO has three passenger terminals. Terminals A and B are opposite sides of the same main landside building; Terminal C is a separate terminal linked to the Train Station complex. The most common mistake is following the correct terminal but the wrong level.
Terminal A
Check-in and access to gate areas are on Level 3. Baggage claim carousels 1–16 are on Level 2. Ground transportation, rental-car access, buses, taxis and the main Lost & Found are on Level 1.
Terminal B
Check-in is on Level 3, baggage claim carousels 20–32 are on Level 2, and ground transportation is on Level 1. Level 2 also lists a nursing pod near bag claim 24 and TSA PreCheck enrollment near bag claim 23.
Terminal C
Terminal C uses different level logic: departures/check-in and security are on Level 2; Garage C and rental-car bridge access are on Level 4; arrivals, baggage claim, Customs/Immigration, meet-and-greet, taxi and rideshare are on Level 6; many buses and shuttles use Level 1.

Walk between Terminals A and B
A and B are opposing sides of the same landside terminal building. The airport states they are about 525 feet apart and passengers can cross on Level 3. You still need the correct gate/security side for your flight.
Terminal Link between A/B and Terminal C / Train Station
The automated Terminal Link ride is about four minutes and operates 24 hours. It connects Terminal B with the Train Station. From the Train Station, Terminal C requires an approximately 1,200-foot walk through Garage C, following airport signs.
24-hour terminal shuttle
The airport also provides a 24-hour shuttle between Terminal C and Terminal B: Terminal C Level 1, space C272; Terminal B Level 1, space B16. This can be useful when accessibility, baggage or operational conditions make the APM route inconvenient.
MCO security waits, identification and free MCO Reserve
MCO tells travelers to be at the security checkpoint about two hours before departure. That is not the same as arriving at airport property two hours before departure: parking, rental return, bag drop and terminal transfers happen first.
Current security wait times
FlyMCO publishes current wait information for gates 1–59, gates 70–129 and Terminal C gates C230–C254. Treat these as a snapshot because queues can change quickly.
MCO Reserve
Eligible passengers who are not using TSA PreCheck or CLEAR+ can reserve a free arrival window for a dedicated screening lane. A/B and C checkpoint areas participate subject to capacity.
Reservation window
MCO says reservations can be made up to seven days ahead. Published screening slots are 5 a.m.–5 p.m. for flights departing 6:30 a.m.–8:30 p.m.
What ID should an adult bring?
For U.S. airport screening, TSA no longer accepts a non-REAL-ID-compliant state driver’s license or state ID as a standard acceptable credential. Adults 18+ should bring a REAL ID-compliant state credential or another TSA-accepted ID such as a passport. TSA’s accepted-ID list can change, so check it before travel—especially if your license is temporary, expired or not REAL ID compliant.
International arrivals at MCO: Terminal C and A/B do not use the same sequence
This is one of the most important MCO-specific details for international travelers: Terminal C uses a “bags first” arrival flow. Other international arrivals using the A/B facilities can follow a different sequence.
Terminal C international arrival
Collect all checked bags, including oversize items, before completing the CBP inspection sequence.
Have passport and required documents ready. Biometric processing is used; eligible travelers can use Global Entry or Mobile Passport Control.
After processing, passengers reach meet-and-greet / domestic baggage-claim Level 6. Rideshare is also on Level 6; rental cars and many shuttles are reached on lower levels.
A/B international arrival and connection
For international arrivals processed through the older A/B facilities, the airport’s connection guidance sends travelers through immigration, baggage claim and customs, followed by baggage recheck and TSA when continuing on a flight.
Because the process depends on arrival facility and onward gate area, use the airport’s international-connections page and your airline rather than assuming the Terminal C “bags first” sequence applies everywhere.
Mobile Passport Control
Eligible travelers can prepare an MPC submission in the CBP app, then follow the dedicated process after arrival. Verify current eligibility before relying on it.
Global Entry
Eligible members can use Global Entry processing. Terminal C also lists a Global Entry Enrollment Center on Level 1.
Separate onward ticket
Allow substantially more time because baggage and missed-connection protection may differ from a single protected itinerary.
Brightline, rideshare, taxis, rental cars, buses and Central Florida transfers
Brightline from the MCO Train Station
The Train Station beside Terminal C serves Brightline toward South Florida. Terminal C passengers walk from Level 4 toward the station; A/B passengers use Terminal Link from Terminal B. Schedules and fares vary, so do not hard-code a train departure into a tight flight connection.
Uber, Lyft and other rideshare pickup
Terminal A: Level 2 arrivals curb 24/7, plus Level 3 departures curb 9 p.m.–2 a.m. Terminal B: the same level pattern. Terminal C: Level 6 arrivals curb. Request after baggage collection and follow the app for the exact door/zone.
Metered taxi locations
Official taxi queues are at Terminal A Level 1 spaces A22–A25, Terminal B Level 1 spaces B30–B34 and Terminal C Level 6. MCO notes airport taxis use taximeters; flat-rate airport taxi fares are not authorized.
On-airport rental cars and returns
MCO’s 2026 fact sheet describes it as home to the world’s largest rental-car market, with most major companies on airport property. A/B rental access is on Level 1; Terminal C on-airport rental facilities connect through Level 4. Confirm the provider’s return instructions because a “MCO return” still has a terminal and garage location.
Visitor Toll Pass for eligible rental cars
The airport’s Visitor Toll Pass can help eligible visitors avoid a rental-company toll-service program while still paying road tolls. Follow the app’s eligibility, plate-registration, pickup and return instructions before declining any rental-company option.
LYNX, SunRail connection and resort buses
LYNX buses serve the airport. SunRail does not have a platform inside MCO; it requires a connecting bus to Sand Lake Road when service days/times fit the trip. Resort and out-of-town shuttles use terminal-specific ground-transport levels, so confirm the provider’s space number.
Choose transport by the trip you actually have
Compare rideshare, prebooked resort shuttle and rental car using total party size, car-seat needs, luggage, tolls and return-day timing—not airport fare alone.
Prebook the transfer and protect the ship check-in time. The airport publishes about $115 as an approximate taxi planning figure to Port Canaveral; it is not a guaranteed quote.
Brightline may remove the need for an airport rental car. Compare the train schedule with the time needed to reach the MCO Train Station from your terminal.
