LAS decoded: Las Vegas airport code, terminals and Strip travel guide

Use the airport code to get the right airport, then solve the trip: Terminal 1 or 3, D-gate connections, TSA, Strip taxi zones, rideshare pickup, parking, rental cars and current airport alerts.

Quick answer: LAS is the three-letter airport code for Harry Reid International Airport. The ICAO code is KLAS. The former airport name was McCarran International Airport; the LAS code did not change when the airport was renamed.
i
Independent guide: Airport-Guides.org is not Harry Reid International Airport, Clark County Department of Aviation, TSA, RTC, an airline or a ground-transport provider. Live gates, terminals, security waits, parking availability and fares should be confirmed with the official source on travel day.
Current airline changes: Harry Reid International Airport currently flags Sun Country’s move to Terminal 1 effective Aug. 5, 2026, with A-gate operations. It also states Spirit ceased LAS operations effective May 2, 2026. Because airline directories and third-party guides can lag, confirm the operating carrier and terminal on the live flight page before driving to T1 or T3.

Immediate code answer

What is the Vegas airport code?

LAS is the three-letter passenger/IATA code for Harry Reid International Airport, the main commercial airport serving Las Vegas. KLAS is the ICAO code used in aviation operations, while the FAA location identifier is also LAS.

IATA / passengerLAS

Tickets, baggage tags and consumer flight searches.

ICAOKLAS

Operational aviation and flight-planning systems.

FAA identifierLAS

U.S. airport/facility identifier.

Current nameHarry Reid

Harry Reid International Airport.

Former nameMcCarran

Same airport; the LAS code did not change.

“Vegas airport code V” is not the airport code. Passenger airport identifiers are normally three letters. For Las Vegas’s main commercial airport, use LAS.

LAS airport code location

LAS is at 5757 Wayne Newton Boulevard, Las Vegas, NV 89119, immediately southeast of the central resort corridor. North Las Vegas Airport uses VGT; it is a different airport.

Crossword intent

Crossword clue: when the Vegas airport answer is LAS

LAS

For a clue asking for a three-letter Vegas airport code, the factual airport answer is normally LAS. That is the real code on airline tickets and baggage tags, not puzzle-only shorthand.

What about a specific NYT crossword?

Use the exact clue wording and crossing letters before filling a particular New York Times grid. Puzzle clues vary by edition and date, so this page does not claim that every “Vegas airport” clue has the same enumeration.

Old name vs current name

McCarran airport code and the Harry Reid name change

Searches for “McCarran airport code” still refer to the same main Las Vegas airport. The facility was officially renamed Harry Reid International Airport in December 2021. The IATA-style passenger code remained LAS, so old bookings, habits and web pages can still use “McCarran” without referring to a different airport.

OLD

McCarran International Airport

Former airport name. Older directions, hotel pages and traveler conversations may still use it.

NOW

Harry Reid International Airport

Current official airport name. Use LAS for ticket and baggage identification.

Hard-to-find traveler answers

Six LAS details that prevent the most common airport mistakes

Priority help
01

D gate does not tell you the terminal

D is a satellite concourse accessible from both terminal systems. Use the operating airline for T1/T3 check-in and baggage claim.

02

You cannot walk T1 ↔ T3 landside

The buildings are separate. Use the free inter-terminal shuttle; secure-side tram routing applies only after the appropriate checkpoint.

03

The Las Vegas Monorail does not serve LAS

Airport public transit is RTC bus service. Vegas Loop is a different service and is now listed by LAS as a to/from-airport option.

04

Uber/Lyft pickup is inside parking garages

T1 uses Garage Level 2; T3 uses the Valet Level. Do not wait for an app ride at the normal baggage-claim curb.

05

The Cell Phone Lot is not overnight

The free lot is currently published as 6 a.m.–1 a.m. Outside those hours, plan legal short-term parking or immediate curb loading.

06

Garage clearances vary by facility

T1 and T3 short-term, long-term, valet and passenger-pickup areas have different height limits. Check before entering with a tall van.

Airport navigation

LAS Terminal 1 vs Terminal 3: where should you go?

No passenger Terminal 2

Terminal 1 contains ticketing/check-in and baggage claim for airlines using A, B, C and D gate paths. Terminal 3 contains its own ticketing/check-in and baggage claim, all international airlines, selected domestic carriers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and access to D/E gates.

D-gate trap: “D” is not enough to choose a terminal. Check the operating airline for ticketing, bag drop, passenger pickup and baggage claim.

Current airline-change notice

Sun Country → Terminal 1

The current airport banner states Sun Country check-in and baggage claim moved to Terminal 1, with A-gate arrivals/departures.

Spirit ceased LAS operations

The airport states Spirit ceased LAS operations. Old airline lists may still show it.

Terminal transfer

Terminal 1 ↔ Terminal 3: shuttle or secure-side tram?

BUS

Free landside inter-terminal shuttle

LAS publishes an approximate 20–30 minute shuttle frequency and an approximately 10-minute ride. At T1, use Level 0 of the parking garage. At T3, use Level Zero and follow current Inter-Terminal/Ground Transportation signs.

Free~20–30 min frequency~10 min ride
TRAM

Secure-side tram routing

From T1, the official route uses the C/D checkpoint, Blue Line to D gates, then Red Line to T3. From T3, clear security on Level 2, take Red Line to D, then Blue Line toward T1 when needed.

No public landside walk: the terminal buildings are separated on the airport campus. Do not plan a walking transfer between T1 and T3.
Security planning

LAS TSA checkpoints, published hours and live wait-time planning

Same-day hours can change

Harry Reid publishes current and hourly expected TSA wait estimates online, but explicitly warns that they fluctuate by the minute and should not be used as a reason to arrive later. The airport still advises roughly 2 hours before domestic and 3 hours before international departures.

CheckpointCurrent published hoursMain use
A/B Gates3:15 a.m.–1:00 a.m.Terminal 1 A/B access

Early/late flight warning: A TSA checkpoint being open does not mean the airline check-in or baggage counter is open. Verify both separately.
Airport to the Strip

Taxi, Uber/Lyft, RTC bus, Vegas Loop or rental car?

LAS is close to the resort corridor, but the best option depends on the hotel, traffic, party size, luggage and event schedule. The Las Vegas Monorail is not an airport train.

OptionBest forAirport detail
TaxiSimple curb-to-resort rideOfficial stands at both terminals; regulated Strip zone fares apply to qualifying destinations.
Uber / LyftApp quote + vehicle trackingPickup inside T1/T3 parking garages; ordinary departure curb for drop-off.
RTC busLow-cost public transitT1: 108, 109, CX. T3: CX. Some Strip trips require a transfer.
Vegas LoopCurrent Loop destinationsLAS now lists Vegas Loop as a to/from-airport option; check current destinations and booking.
Rental carHoover Dam, Red Rock or regional drivingVehicles are at the Rent-A-Car Center on Gilespie Street, not at the terminals.
Monorail confusion: the Las Vegas Monorail does not serve Harry Reid International Airport. For public transit, start with RTC airport routes.

RTC airport bus stops that are easy to miss

  • Terminal 1: Routes 108, 109 and Centennial Express (CX) use the Level Zero transit area.
  • Terminal 3: CX uses the bus stop on Level 2 across from Door 44.
  • Route 109: connects with the South Strip Transit Terminal, useful for onward Deuce connections.
  • Use the live RTC trip planner for fares and schedules because service changes can make old blog timetables stale.

15-minute grace

For eligible terminal parking, drive directly to the exit and insert the ticket within the first 15 minutes. Do not use the walk-up pay station if you expect the grace exit.

30-day maximum

Standard long-term parking is capped at 30 days without advance notice. Current parking pages direct longer-stay requests to 702-261-5122.

Remote Lot

Remote parking is at 7150 Gilespie Street, across from the Rent-A-Car Center, with free terminal shuttles. Current guidance says credit cards only and no overnight oversize vehicles.

Terminal 3 east vs west parking trick

For an international arrival/departure at T3, the airport advises the east side marked with a “club” symbol to reduce walking. Domestic T3 parking uses the west side marked with a “diamond” symbol.

Parking PDF takeaway: the current airport PDF confirms $20 long-term, $38 short-term, $14 economy/remote, $34 valet, $30 T1 reservation, $23 T3 reservation and the discounted T3 reservation schedule. Availability is limited, so rate alone does not guarantee a space.

Pickup areas are across from the terminals on Parking Garage Level 1. Numbered columns make it easier to coordinate an exact meeting point.

15M

Meeting inside

Short-term parking is better for children, older travelers, first-time visitors or anyone needing assistance. Airport travel tips highlight the first 15 minutes as free when the grace-exit rules are followed.

No curb waiting: curb space is for immediate loading/unloading. If the passenger is not ready, return to the Cell Phone Lot during its hours or use short-term parking.
Off-terminal rental facility

LAS Rent-A-Car Center: shuttle stops, return and lost items

Recent airport information highlights LV Provisions in T3 baggage claim for water, snacks, travel-size personal-care items, chargers, adapters and SIM products—useful before leaving the airport.

Smoking and vaping: use only designated areas

LAS does not permit smoking/vaping throughout the terminals. Official amenity guidance lists designated outdoor locations and enclosed smoking/gaming areas, including Barneys Lounge at C Gates, Bud 29 Track Lounge in the T1 Esplanade and enclosed gaming lounges in B/C/D/E gate areas.

Vegas heat planning: hydrate before leaving the terminal, especially when waiting outdoors for ground transportation. In summer, an extra refill after security can be more useful than carrying a sealed drink that TSA makes you discard.

International arrivals

International arrival and onward connection at Terminal 3

Terminal 3 contains U.S. Customs and Border Protection facilities. The exact entry path depends on citizenship, documents, trusted-traveler eligibility and whether the origin airport had U.S. preclearance.

  1. 1
    Follow federal-inspection signs

Keep passport and entry documents accessible until inspection is complete.

  2. 2
    Complete immigration/entry processing

Use only a lane or trusted-traveler process for which you are eligible.

  3. 3
    Collect checked baggage when instructed

Follow CBP/airline directions before leaving the controlled area.

  4. 4
Recheck/clear TSA if your connection requires it

Confirm with the operating airline whether bags must be rechecked and whether the onward gate requires another security screening.

Connection risk: immigration, baggage delivery, bag recheck and TSA are variable. A short connection can fail even when the gates look close on the map.
First-time Vegas arrival

From aircraft door to the Strip: a simple arrival sequence

1. Reach baggage/CBPDomestic: baggage claim if needed. International: complete the T3 federal-arrivals process first.
2. Confirm the terminalGround-transport pickup locations are terminal-specific. D-gate arrival alone does not identify baggage claim.
3. Choose transportTaxi for regulated Strip-zone simplicity; rideshare for app quotes; RTC for budget travel; Loop where its current network fits.
4. Follow the correct levelRideshare uses garage levels; taxi uses baggage-claim stands; RTC stops differ between T1 and T3.
Vegas-specific disruption planning

Major events, desert heat, road closures and late-night arrivals

Normal map times can become unreliable during conventions, stadium events, Formula 1-related closures, holiday weekends and Strip construction. Airport operations can be normal while resort-corridor ground traffic is not.

Before leaving the hotel

Check airline status, TSA estimates and road/transit conditions separately. Add extra time for large events.

Extreme heat

Refill water after security and minimize outdoor waiting. Garage/rideshare wayfinding is preferable to standing at an incorrect curb in summer heat.

After 1 a.m.

The Cell Phone Lot is currently closed after 1 a.m. Use legal short-term parking or immediate-loading pickup instead.

Nevada Taxicab AuthorityRegulated taxi rates and Strip-zone fare table.

PDF audit result: the LAS parking-rate PDF is useful and current for the July 1, 2026 rate change. The Nevada taxi “Approximate Fares From Harry Reid” PDF is currently only a revision placeholder, so live taxi fare HTML is used instead.
Internal-link audit: the airport-guides.org sitemap/search did not expose verifiable post URLs in this session. No guessed internal links were inserted.
Last fact-check: August 11, 2026. Airline assignments, TSA hours/waits, parking availability, taxi surcharges, rideshare routing and transit service are time-sensitive.
