Know which airport your ticket actually uses before you book a hotel, taxi or connection. This guide separates Benito Juárez AICM (MEX) from Felipe Ángeles AIFA (NLU) and Toluca (TLC), then gives the terminal, transfer, security, parking and transport details travelers need.
AICM renovation is active again: add curb, parking and walking time
Official alternative at Viaducto Río de la Piedad 108, capacity about 700 vehicles, 24/7 until further notice, with free AICM vehicle transfer to the terminals.
A 59,000 m² alternative area on Alberto Santos Dumont / Juan Guillermo Villasana connects to T2 by a signed, lit and monitored pedestrian route.
Another published option before the T2 vehicle ramp holds about 650 vehicles and operates 24 hours.

Six Mexico City airport details that prevent the most expensive mistakes
The city name does not guarantee Benito Juárez. Match the three-letter code on the ticket before booking a hotel, taxi or connection.
Give the driver both MEX and the current terminal. Codeshares can move the operating flight away from the terminal you expected.
The dedicated Aerotrén page says 05:00–23:00, while another official inter-terminal page says 05:00–01:00. Plan late travel around the earlier cutoff.
AICM reiterated this in March 2026. Use authorized taxi booths or another legally permitted transport option unless official rules change.
Construction has prompted three published parking alternatives. Confirm the option is still active before driving to it.

Connecting between MEX, NLU or TLC is a ground airport change—not a terminal transfer
A ticket that arrives at one Mexico City-area airport and departs from another requires a landside trip. There is no shared secure-side shuttle linking MEX, NLU and TLC. Treat the airport change like two separate airport visits.
Confirm with the operating airline whether the airport change is intentionally sold, whether baggage is through-checked, who provides ground transport, and what happens after a delay. Do not assume the airline automatically transports you between airports.
Build a much larger buffer: deplane, collect bags if required, exit the first airport, travel across the metro area, reach the second airport, check in/bag-drop again and clear security. The second carrier may not protect a missed flight.

Terminal 1
The larger historic terminal handles a broad mix of domestic and international carriers. Passenger services include the Terminal Aérea Metro connection, Metrobús, intercity buses, multiple parking areas, hotels, lounges and 24-hour luggage storage.
Terminal 2
Terminal 2 is a separate building with its own check-in, security, arrivals halls, parking and ground transport. Aeroméxico has a major presence, but never assume T2 from airline brand alone without checking the operating flight.
Aerotrén or TETSA: how to move between MEX Terminal 1 and Terminal 2
Aerotrén for eligible passengers
The dedicated AICM Aerotrén page lists daily service from 05:00 to 23:00, free of charge, and requires a boarding pass. Official inter-terminal guidance places boarding at Terminal 1 Gate 6 and Terminal 2 Gate 4.
TETSA for the general public and a late fallback
The dedicated TETSA page says buses run 05:00–01:00, 365 days a year, between T1 Gate 7 and T2 Gate 4. AICM’s inter-terminal guidance says the public buses have wheelchair boarding/alighting capability, air conditioning and luggage space.
Same ticket / protected connection
Ask the operating airline whether you remain eligible for Aerotrén, whether checked bags transfer automatically and whether you must pass security again. Terminal movement alone is not the whole connection.
Separate tickets / self-transfer
Plan for baggage claim, landside transfer, a new check-in/bag-drop cutoff and security. A fast T1↔T2 vehicle ride does not make a short separate-ticket connection safe.
Mexico City airport departures: use the operating airline first
When this guide was fact-checked, AICM’s own flight-status page displayed “Por el momento se encuentra en mantenimiento”. That makes the operating airline’s app/site especially important for departure time, terminal, gate, cancellation and rebooking information.
Before leaving
Verify airport code, terminal, operating carrier and current flight status. A codeshare marketing flight number can hide the airline that actually operates the aircraft.
At the terminal
Check airport flight-information screens again after security. Gate and operational details can change after the mobile boarding pass was downloaded.
During disruption
Use the airline for rebooking, baggage and passenger-rights questions. Airport customer service cannot rewrite an airline ticket.
Security screening and how early to arrive at MEX
AICM’s passenger guidance uses about 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights as a baseline. During the 2026 renovation, add more time for checked bags, family travel, parking, terminal changes or peak demand.
Terminal 1 checkpoint names
The official inspection page identifies Bravo, Delta, Golfo and Julieta. In March 2026, renovated Julieta reopened near gates 24–28 before international gates 29–36; Bravo and Golfo had also reopened after renovation. Because construction has continued in phases, follow the current open-checkpoint signs rather than an old photo.
Terminal 2 checkpoints
The official inspection page identifies Mike and Kilo. AICM reported both T2 inspection points had been expanded and renovated. Current queue routing still depends on flight flow and airport operations.
Liquids and electronics
AICM says liquids and gels over 100 mL are not permitted through normal passenger inspection. Present a boarding pass and valid official ID, remove requested metal items, and place uncased electronics in a separate tray when instructed.
Immigration, baggage and customs at Mexico City airport
International entry procedures depend on nationality, visa status and current Mexican rules. The practical airport sequence is to follow signs for immigration, complete the applicable entry inspection, collect checked baggage, then follow customs instructions before entering the public arrivals area.
Prepare entry documents before the desk
Keep the passport and any required visa, residence or supporting travel documents accessible. Do not place essential entry documents only in checked baggage.
Collect checked baggage before leaving the controlled area
Follow the carousel display and airline instructions. For a connecting itinerary, confirm whether the bag must be reclaimed and rechecked; do not assume every international transfer is automatically through-checked.
Follow Mexican customs rules
Mexico’s customs authority publishes the personal-baggage and duty-free allowance rules. Declare goods when required and use official customs guidance rather than social-media advice.
Checked bag did not arrive?
Report it before leaving the baggage-claim process. AICM’s FAQ directs domestic passengers to the airline baggage-claim counter beside the relevant carousel; international passengers should contact the airline representative near the baggage belt/check process. An airline baggage case is different from airport Lost & Found.
Where to meet domestic and international arrivals
AICM publishes unusually specific meeting-room guidance. Use the flight’s terminal and origin to choose the correct arrivals hall instead of waiting at a generic airport entrance.

Metrobús, Metro, authorized taxi, intercity buses and ride-app rules at MEX
Metrobús Line 4 / Quetzalcóatl toward central Mexico City
For the 2026 renovation period, AICM specifically promotes the electric-bus Quetzalcóatl airport route. Its February bulletin lists a 30 MXN fare, Monday–Saturday 04:30–00:00 and Sunday 05:00–00:00. The bulletin gives T1 Gate 7 and a temporary T2 Gate 4 stop during construction.
Metro Line 5 from the Terminal 1 side
Terminal Aérea station is on the Terminal 1 side. Terminal 2 does not have the same direct Metro-station entrance. With large bags, limited mobility or an unfamiliar night transfer, compare Metrobús or authorized taxi rather than choosing Metro only for price.
Authorized airport taxis: buy from the official booth
Use authorized taxi sales modules inside the terminal and the designated service lane. AICM lists T1 sales points in domestic Room A/outside A/domestic baggage claim and international Rooms E2/E3/Gate 10; T2 sales points include domestic Room D and international Room E/Gate 4.
A June 2026 AICM update says the 11 authorized taxi groups proposed discounts/incentives that vary by group and should be displayed at the sales points. Compare the posted price before buying rather than assuming one universal discount.
Uber-style/app taxi pickup: do not assume federal-zone curb access
In its March 10, 2026 ground-transport update, AICM explicitly reiterated that taxi services ordered through apps are not authorized to operate in the airport’s federal zone. Do not follow a driver instruction that asks you to ignore airport restrictions or cross unsafe roadways.
If an app shows a pickup suggestion, verify that it is legal and consistent with current airport signage before moving. For the most predictable airport pickup, use an authorized taxi booth or another officially permitted transport mode.
Intercity buses from both terminals
Both terminals have bus bays published as open 24 hours. T1 is in the international area between Gates 7 and 8, accessed from first-level Room F; T2 is beside the terminal near Room D/Gate 4 or domestic arrivals. These can be useful for Puebla, Cuernavaca, Querétaro, Pachuca, Toluca and other regional trips when the timetable fits.

MEX parking rates, exact lot locations and 2026 alternatives
AICM lists three core 24-hour parking areas: Terminal 1 domestic, Terminal 1 international and Terminal 2. During the renovation, normal capacity can be constrained, so a traveler driving to MEX should know the alternative lots before reaching the terminal road system.

Inside the T2 complex, 24/7, but this is the area most affected by the new multi-level garage and roadway program.

AICM’s service directory lists Mexicana de Lockers in T1 ground-floor local E-41 (55 5802-8467) and Viajes Kokai in T2 ground-floor ALL45/ALL46 (55 4313-0259), both published as 24 hours. Confirm price, ID and maximum-storage rules at the counter.
Free Wi-Fi 7
Use network #AICM_FREE_WIFI. The June 2026 rollout covers public terminal areas through the final waiting lounges. AICM allows up to two uninterrupted hours before the terms must be accepted again.
Emergency medical service
T1 domestic Room B: 24/7, 55 2482-2424 ext. 2243 / 55 5571-3084. T2 domestic near position 75: 24/7, 55 2598-7000 ext. 7007/7008. AICM also lists a T1 international point near position 25/Room G, 07:00–22:30.
Lounges
The official directory lists multiple T1/T2 lounges, including some 24-hour entries. Access depends on airline, cabin, card, membership or current paid-entry rules; confirm before changing terminals solely for a lounge.
Airport hotels
AICM’s current commercial directory lists Hilton on T1’s third level and Courtyard by Marriott serving T1, plus hotel services around T2. Verify landside/airside access before walking away from the departure area.
Bilingual passenger support
AICM’s Passenger Support staff provide Spanish/English orientation for airline counters, arrivals, immigration, customs, taxis, security and other airport services. Look for the distinctive support vest.
Information desk quick finder: arrivals, departures and international halls
The airport’s information modules can help with flight information, airline offices, baggage claim, paging and airport-service locations. Most published desk hours are 06:30–22:00 daily.

What is actually available overnight at MEX?
MEX operates around the clock, but an airport being open does not mean every airline counter, checkpoint, restaurant or lounge is open. Plan each overnight need separately.
Wheelchair, mobility and special-medical support
Airline assistance first
For wheelchair service, boarding assistance, electric-wheelchair handling or help between gates, contact the operating airline before travel. Airport passenger-support staff can help with orientation but do not replace the airline’s flight-related mobility service.
Screening with medical needs
AICM allows wheelchairs, crutches and canes; electric wheelchairs require airline coordination. Passengers with pacemakers or pregnancy may request manual screening. Reasonable quantities of medication and special-diet items are treated differently from ordinary liquids.
Children, older travelers, pets and mobility planning at MEX
Unaccompanied minors
AICM says airlines provide special accompaniment services for minors traveling alone. Arrange the service with the operating airline, follow its age/document rules and do not assume airport staff can replace the airline escort.
Older travelers
Airlines can provide wheelchair/escort services, while AICM Passenger Support can orient travelers inside the terminal. Core parking lots also publish priority spaces and mini-vehicle assistance to parked cars.
Pets and guide dogs
AICM’s passenger guidance distinguishes domestic and international travel and requires airline registration. For international cabin pets, the boarding pass should indicate cabin/Pet in Cabin when applicable. Confirm current airline and SENASICA requirements before travel.
Lost bag, phone, passport or document: use the correct MEX contact
Airport Lost & Found is for property recovered in airport areas. An item left on the aircraft goes to the operating airline, and a checked bag that failed to arrive should be reported to the airline baggage desk before leaving baggage claim.

AICM asks for the owner’s documents, a simple power of attorney specifying the object, and the representative’s printed official identification.
Felipe Ángeles AIFA (NLU) is a separate airport—not another MEX terminal
NLU is the IATA passenger code for Aeropuerto Internacional Felipe Ángeles. The official address is Circuito Exterior Mexiquense km 33, Santa Lucía, Zumpango de Ocampo, Estado de México 55640. Do not drive to Benito Juárez AICM when the itinerary says NLU.
Arrivals level
AIFA’s live guide places domestic arrivals near Door 5 and international arrivals near Door 7. Doors 1–4 serve private vehicles/authorized transport functions; the central area also links toward intermodal transport.
Departures level
Level 3 contains airline documentation/check-in, security and departure functions. Follow the current airline/checkpoint signs rather than assuming MEX terminal procedures apply.
How early AIFA says to arrive
AIFA’s passenger recommendations publish about 1 hour before boarding for domestic travel and 2 hours before boarding for international travel; travelers without checked bags may have a shorter domestic baseline. The operating airline’s earlier cutoff still controls.
Tren Felipe Ángeles
AIFA currently publishes an introductory 45 MXN fare between the airport and any station, an initial AIFA–Buenavista travel time of about 60 minutes, and access with the Movilidad Integrada card. Published hours are Mon–Fri 05:00–00:00, Sat 06:00–00:00, and Sun/holidays 07:00–00:00. The airport says the trip is planned to shorten over time, so verify the current timetable before a tight flight.

Toluca airport code TLC: do not confuse it with MEX
TLC identifies Toluca International Airport, with ICAO code MMTO. It is in the State of Mexico and requires a different ground-transport plan from Benito Juárez (MEX) or Felipe Ángeles (NLU).
Mexico City’s high elevation can affect the first travel day
Mexico City sits at roughly 2,240 meters / 7,350 feet above sea level. Some visitors notice faster breathing, headache, thirst or fatigue after a long flight. Hydrate normally, avoid overexertion immediately after arrival and follow medical advice for personal health conditions.
