The 20-minute garage grace period

FLL states that self-park guests who exit within 20 minutes or less are not charged. After 20 minutes, the normal parking fee applies from entry time. This can be more comfortable than circling if you need to walk inside briefly.

When approaching the airport loop for parking, FLL tells drivers to stay left and use the second lane from the left for all parking, then follow Short-Term or Long-Term signs. That small lane-choice detail can prevent a last-minute loop around Terminal Drive.

Three Tesla charging stations are available for valet guests only at the T1/T4 valet locations. A free tire-inflation station is on the west wall of the main exit plaza; mobile inflation assistance can also be requested through parking operations.

The official Cell Phone Waiting Area is free at 600 Terminal Drive, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33315. It has arrival-information displays and is intended for private vehicles waiting for an arriving passenger. The passenger should collect bags, go outside, then send the exact terminal/door before the driver approaches the arrivals curb.

Can I escort a minor or traveler needing assistance to the gate?

Sometimes. The operating airline may issue a gate pass to a non-ticketed guardian or healthcare assistant for a minor traveling alone or a passenger requiring special assistance. It is entirely at the airline’s discretion, and the escort must show valid government-issued photo ID. Ask the airline ticket counter—not TSA or the airport—to determine eligibility.

FLL to Port Everglades: cruise-passenger guide

This is one of FLL’s most important traveler-specific use cases. The airport and Port Everglades are close, but cruise days create unusually heavy baggage and terminal demand.

After a cruise with a late flight

Do not assume your airline will accept checked luggage all morning. During peak cruise activity, FLL warns that airlines may accept bags only up to about two hours before scheduled departure. Public baggage storage is available in all terminals; FLL lists 954-359-5505 for information.

Earlier-flight standby on cruise days

FLL says airlines discourage standby for earlier flights on Friday through Monday cruise days because flights may already be full. Large numbers of cruise passengers can reach the airport early in the morning for later departures.

Outdoor pet-relief areas are outside the terminals on the lower level. FLL also lists six post-security service-animal relief areas: three in Terminal 1 and one each in Terminals 2, 3 and 4.

Construction information is easy to misread as a current passenger amenity. The official Broward capital documents separate today’s four-terminal airport from Terminal 5, terminal connectors, the Automated People Mover and the future Intermodal Center.

Terminal 5: what the official 2025 project PDF says

Broward’s November 2025 Industry Day presentation describes Terminal 5 as a two-level, five-gate domestic concourse with ticketing, baggage processing, security screening, retail and food/beverage. The presentation says the five additional gates would bring the airport to 71 total gates and support planning for up to 42 million annual passengers. The current FLL project page describes a roughly 230,000-square-foot terminal connecting to Terminal 4 and the Cypress Garage by multi-level pedestrian bridges/walkways and anticipates completion by 2030.

Terminal connectors: why transfer instructions will eventually change

The official Industry Day PDF shows a new connector between Terminals 1 and 2 and another between Terminals 2 and 3. It also describes a 35,200-square-foot Terminal 2 landside expansion and a 14,200-square-foot Terminal 1 expansion. The goal is post-security circulation between all terminals. Until those connections are officially opened, use the current transfer rules in this guide and expect TSA rescreening when moving between disconnected secure zones.

Automated People Mover and Intermodal Center

The approved landside planning program includes an Automated People Mover circulator, an Intermodal Center with thousands of parking spaces, Palm Garage redevelopment, supplemental curb/roadway capacity and other access improvements. These projects explain construction around FLL but are not current passenger services. Current transfers still use walking routes, garage trams and Rental Car Center shuttles where applicable.
