VPS is Destin–Fort Walton Beach Airport in Florida
Use VPS when booking normal commercial airline travel to Destin, Fort Walton Beach and much of Florida’s Emerald Coast. The airport’s aviation identifier is also shown as KVPS in ICAO references.
What airport is VPS?
VPS is the IATA airport code for Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport. It is the commercial passenger airport many travelers use for Destin, Fort Walton Beach, Okaloosa Island, Miramar Beach and other Emerald Coast destinations.
The airport’s terminal address is at Eglin AFB rather than in downtown Destin. That location explains why a map search for “Destin airport” can be confusing: a separate airport called Destin Executive Airport sits much closer to Destin itself.
Airport live checks & travel tools
Use current local conditions, official live-status links and planning calculators before you travel. Airline gate, terminal and flight times can change; your carrier remains the final source for flight-specific details.
Live flight center
Check the airport's official flight board, then confirm any last-minute gate or timing change with the airline.
Current airport-area weather
Useful for planning your trip to the airport. This is model-based local weather, not an aviation METAR or an airline operational forecast.
Quick official checks
Open the source that matches the decision you are making right now.
When should I reach the airport?
A planning estimate based on flight type and common time buffers. Always increase the buffer for severe weather, major holidays, unusual airport alerts or airline instructions.
Connection-risk checker
This is a planning heuristic, not an airline minimum-connection-time rule. International arrivals that require U.S. entry processing, baggage claim and security can need substantially more time.
Parking cost estimator
Uses the airport-specific rates stored in this article's configuration. Rates can change; verify availability and final pricing on the official parking page before driving in.
Passenger pickup readiness
Landing time is not curb-ready time. Add time for taxiing, deplaning, baggage claim, customs when applicable and walking to the correct pickup zone.
VPS, KVPS, DSI, DTS and KDTS explained
Several airport identifiers appear around Destin because the area has both a commercial airport and a separate general-aviation airport. The codes are not interchangeable.
| Code | Airport / system | When travelers see it |
|---|---|---|
| VPS | Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport · passenger/IATA code and FAA identifier | Airline booking, baggage, flight status and normal commercial travel |
| KVPS | Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport · ICAO identifier | Aviation charts, procedures and operational references |
| DTS | Destin Executive Airport · FAA/local airport identifier | General aviation, private-aircraft and FBO context |
| KDTS | Destin Executive Airport · ICAO identifier | Pilot and aviation-system references |
| DSI | Destin Executive Airport · IATA-style airport-code listings | Directory or code-reference searches, not normal VPS airline bookings |
Why is Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport called VPS?
The code predates the airport’s current name. FlyVPS says that when the Northwest Florida Air Terminal opened on Eglin Air Force Base in 1957, passengers entered from the east side of the base in Valparaiso, Florida, and “VPS” was born from that location.
The airport was later renamed several times, including becoming Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport in 2015. The historic VPS code remained.
VPS or Destin Executive: which airport do you need?
Commercial airline traveler
Choose Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport for scheduled passenger flights, airline check-in, checked bags and most Destin-area vacations.
Private or general aviation
Destin Executive Airport is a separate Okaloosa County airport used primarily for general aviation. If your itinerary mentions an FBO, DTS, KDTS or DSI, confirm that you are going to Destin Executive rather than VPS.
VPS terminal, concourses and security
VPS has a main passenger terminal with A, B and C concourse areas. The airport’s official facility-map page provides separate views for the main terminal, A/B gates, Concourse C and parking.
Concourse C opened in 2022 with five additional gates, an additional three-lane TSA checkpoint and more concessions. Because gate assignments and checkpoint operations can change, use the airport map for orientation and your airline app for the final gate.
Before leaving home
Check the official facility map so you know the relationship between parking, ticketing, security, baggage claim and your concourse.
Arrival time
FlyVPS currently recommends arriving two hours before your flight. Your airline may recommend more time for a specific trip or travel period.
Day-of-flight changes
Use your airline’s app for current boarding time, gate, baggage and delay information rather than relying on a static travel article.
Airlines serving VPS
The official VPS airline page currently lists Allegiant Air, American Airlines, Delta, JetBlue Airways, Southwest Airlines and Sun Country Airlines. Individual destinations and frequencies vary, and some service may be seasonal.
VPS parking rates and pickup waiting
The official airport currently lists three parking lots plus a free cell-phone waiting area. A free parking shuttle operates daily from 5 a.m. until the last arrival.
| Parking period | Published rate | Important detail |
|---|---|---|
| First 10 minutes | Free | Useful for quick entry/exit; do not use terminal curb as a waiting area |
| 15–60 minutes | $1.50 | Airport lists rates before Florida sales tax |
| Each additional hour | $1.50 | Verify the current schedule if staying several hours |
| Daily | $8.50 | Published before 7% Florida sales tax |
| Cell-phone waiting area | Free | Wait in your vehicle until the arriving traveler is ready at the terminal sidewalk |
Rates above reflect the official airport page checked in September 2026 and can change. VPS also states that qualifying 100% disabled American veterans with a state-issued DV plate receive free parking.
Ground transportation from VPS
VPS currently states that no public transportation system serves the airport. Most arriving passengers therefore use a rental car, rideshare, taxi, private shuttle or a hotel/condo courtesy shuttle.
Rental cars
Rental-car counters are in the lower-level baggage-claim lobby. VPS recommends reserving before arrival and says counters remain open until after the last flight arrives.
Uber and Lyft
The airport says rideshare is available with a dedicated driver waiting area and a covered passenger pickup area near the terminal. Follow current signs after collecting your bags.
Taxi or shuttle
Private shuttle and ground-transport operators serve the Northwest Florida area. Confirm price, child-seat needs, pickup instructions and cancellation terms directly with the provider.
Driving to Destin, Fort Walton Beach or 30A
The official VPS address is 1701 State Road 85 North, Eglin AFB, FL 32542. The airport is north of the beach corridor, so your final drive depends on where you are staying rather than simply on the word “Destin.”
For Destin, Miramar Beach, Sandestin or 30A, check the route immediately before leaving the airport. Seasonal traffic, weather and bridge conditions can materially change drive time. The airport’s official directions include routes via State Road 85, US 98 and the Mid-Bay Bridge corridor.
Accessibility and useful VPS amenities
Passengers who need flight-related assistance should contact their airline before travel for wheelchairs, boarding assistance, lifts, connection help or other airline-managed accommodations. FlyVPS also publishes a 24/7 accessibility-assistance number at (850) 609-4750.
Wheelchair and curbside assistance
The airport lists (850) 651-7166 for wheelchair help inside the airport and for paging free curbside assistance at the ticketing entrance.
Accessible facilities
VPS states that restrooms are wheelchair accessible, family restrooms are available, accessible parking is provided, and the Bark Park between the parking area and terminal serves as a service-animal relief area.
Family needs
Concourse C has nursing rooms, and a Mamava lactation pod is available on the B-level concourse.
Airport amenities
VPS currently offers free terminal Wi-Fi, ATMs and food options before and after security. The airport states that it does not have a currency-exchange facility.
Common VPS airport-code and travel problems
Your booking says “Destin” but the code is not VPS
Do not assume it is the same airport. Check the exact airport name and code before payment, especially if the result shows DSI, DTS, KDTS, ECP or PNS.
Your driver is asking which “Destin airport”
Send VPS · Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport, your airline and flight number. That is more reliable than sending only a city name.
Your nonstop flight is missing on another date
Some VPS routes can be seasonal or operate only on selected days. Check the airline’s own booking calendar rather than assuming the route was permanently discontinued.
You lost an item at the airport
For items lost in the terminal, VPS says to call 850-651-7160 and press 3 or email Lost_Found@FlyVPS.com. Airport Lost & Found keeps items for one month and operates Monday–Friday, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., excluding holidays. Items left on an aircraft should be reported to the airline; rental-car items go to the rental agency.
